The Plague on the Firstborn
Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely.

Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Noch eine Plage schicke ich dem Pharao und seinem Land. Danach wird er euch von hier wegziehen lassen. Und wenn er euch endlich ziehen lässt, wird er euch sogar fortjagen.
Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.”
Lass unter dem Volk ausrufen, jeder Mann und jede Frau soll sich von dem Nachbarn Geräte aus Silber und Gold erbitten!
(The Lord made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)
Der HERR ließ das Volk bei den Ägyptern Gunst finden. Auch Mose genoss im Land Ägypten bei den Dienern des Pharao und beim Volk hohes Ansehen.
So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight I will go throughout Egypt.

Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well.
Dann wird jeder Erstgeborene im Land Ägypten sterben, vom Erstgeborenen des Pharao, der auf dem Thron sitzt, bis zum Erstgeborenen der Magd an der Handmühle und alle Erstgeburt vom Vieh.
There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt — worse than there has ever been or ever will be again.
Geschrei wird sich im ganzen Land Ägypten erheben, so groß, wie es keines je gegeben hat oder geben wird.
But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
Doch gegen keinen der Israeliten wird auch nur ein Hund die Zähne fletschen, weder gegen Mensch noch Vieh; denn ihr sollt wissen, dass der HERR zwischen Ägypten und Israel einen Unterschied macht.
All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will leave.” Then Moses, hot with anger, left Pharaoh.
Dann werden alle deine Diener hier zu mir herabsteigen, sich vor mir niederwerfen und sagen: Zieht doch fort, du und das ganze Volk, das du anführst. Danach werde ich fortziehen. Er verließ den Pharao, rot vor Zorn.
The Lord had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you — so that my wonders may be multiplied in Egypt.”
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören; denn ich will viele Wunder im Land Ägypten vollbringen.
Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country.
Mose und Aaron vollbrachten alle diese Wunder vor dem Pharao, aber der HERR verhärtete das Herz des Pharao, sodass er die Israeliten nicht aus seinem Land fortziehen ließ.
