Darby Bible Translation

  • Ezekiel’s Call to Be a Prophet

He said to me, “Son of man,a stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.”
  • Ezekiel's Call

And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak with thee.
  • As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.
  • And the Spirit entered into me when he spoke unto me, and set me upon my feet; and I heard him that spoke unto me.
  • He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day.
  • And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to nations that are rebellious, which have rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me unto this very day;
  • The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’
  • and these children are impudent and hard-hearted: I am sending thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah.
  • And whether they listen or fail to listen — for they are a rebellious people — they will know that a prophet has been among them.
  • And they, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear -- for they are a rebellious house -- yet shall they know that there hath been a prophet among them.
  • And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.
  • And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, and be not afraid of their words; for briars and thorns are with thee, and thou dwellest among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, and be not dismayed at their faces; for they are a rebellious house.
  • You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious.
  • And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear; for they are rebellious.
  • But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that rebellious people; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
  • And thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
  • Then I looked, and I saw a hand stretched out to me. In it was a scroll,
  • And I looked, and behold, a hand was put forth toward me; and behold, a roll of a book therein.
  • which he unrolled before me. On both sides of it were written words of lament and mourning and woe.
  • And he spread it out before me; and it was written within and without; and there were written in it lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
