because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Ihr wisst, dass die Prüfung eures Glaubens Geduld bewirkt.
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Die Geduld aber soll zu einem vollkommenen Werk führen, damit ihr vollkommen und untadelig seid und es euch an nichts fehlt.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Fehlt es aber einem von euch an Weisheit, dann soll er sie von Gott erbitten; Gott wird sie ihm geben, denn er gibt allen gern und macht niemandem einen Vorwurf.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
Wer bittet, soll aber im Glauben bitten und nicht zweifeln; denn wer zweifelt, gleicht einer Meereswoge, die vom Wind hin und her getrieben wird.
That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Ein solcher Mensch bilde sich nicht ein, dass er vom Herrn etwas erhalten wird:
Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
Er ist ein Mann mit zwei Seelen, unbeständig auf all seinen Wegen.
Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.
Der Bruder, der in niederem Stand lebt, rühme sich seiner hohen Würde,
But the rich should take pride in their humiliation — since they will pass away like a wild flower.
der Reiche aber seiner Niedrigkeit; denn er wird dahinschwinden wie die Blume im Gras.
For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
Denn die Sonne geht auf mit ihrer Hitze und versengt das Gras; die Blume verwelkt und ihre Pracht vergeht. So wird auch der Reiche vergehen in allem, was er unternimmt.
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
Selig der Mann, der in der Versuchung standhält. Denn wenn er sich bewährt, wird er den Kranz des Lebens erhalten, der denen verheißen ist, die Gott lieben.
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
Keiner, der in Versuchung gerät, soll sagen: Ich werde von Gott in Versuchung geführt. Denn Gott lässt sich nicht zum Bösen versuchen, er führt aber auch selbst niemanden in Versuchung.
but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
Vielmehr wird jeder von seiner eigenen Begierde in Versuchung geführt, die ihn lockt und fängt.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Wenn die Begierde dann schwanger geworden ist, bringt sie die Sünde zur Welt; ist die Sünde reif geworden, bringt sie den Tod hervor.
Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.
Lasst euch nicht irreführen, meine geliebten Brüder und Schwestern:
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Jede gute Gabe und jedes vollkommene Geschenk kommt von oben herab, vom Vater der Gestirne, bei dem es keine Veränderung oder Verfinsterung gibt.
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Aus freiem Willen hat er uns durch das Wort der Wahrheit geboren, damit wir eine Erstlingsfrucht seiner Schöpfung seien.
Listening and Doing
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Wisset, meine geliebten Brüder und Schwestern: Jeder Mensch sei schnell zum Hören, langsam zum Reden, langsam zum Zorn;
because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
denn der Zorn eines Mannes schafft keine Gerechtigkeit vor Gott.
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
Darum legt alles Schmutzige und die viele Bosheit ab und nehmt in Sanftmut das Wort an, das in euch eingepflanzt worden ist und die Macht hat, euch zu retten!
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Werdet aber Täter des Wortes und nicht nur Hörer, sonst betrügt ihr euch selbst!
Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror
Wer nur Hörer des Wortes ist und nicht danach handelt, gleicht einem Menschen, der sein eigenes Gesicht im Spiegel betrachtet:
and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Er betrachtet sich, geht weg und schon hat er vergessen, wie er aussah.
But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it — not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it — they will be blessed in what they do.
Wer sich aber in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit vertieft und an ihm festhält, wer es nicht nur hört und es wieder vergisst, sondern zum Täter des Werkes geworden ist, wird selig sein in seinem Tun.
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
Wenn einer meint, er diene Gott, aber seine Zunge nicht im Zaum hält, sondern sein Herz betrügt, dessen Gottesdienst ist wertlos.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Ein reiner und makelloser Gottesdienst ist es vor Gott, dem Vater: für Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Not zu sorgen und sich unbefleckt von der Welt zu bewahren.
