When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.
Wenn zwei Männer eine Auseinandersetzung haben, vor Gericht gehen und man zwischen ihnen die Entscheidung fällt, indem man dem Recht gibt, der im Recht ist, und den schuldig spricht, der schuldig ist,
If the guilty person deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make them lie down and have them flogged in his presence with the number of lashes the crime deserves,
dann soll der Richter, falls der Schuldige zu einer Prügelstrafe verurteilt wurde, anordnen, dass er sich hinlegt und in seiner Gegenwart eine bestimmte Anzahl von Schlägen erhält, wie es seiner Schuld entspricht.
but the judge must not impose more than forty lashes. If the guilty party is flogged more than that, your fellow Israelite will be degraded in your eyes.

If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
Wenn zwei Brüder zusammenwohnen und der eine von ihnen stirbt und keinen Sohn hat, soll die Frau des Verstorbenen nicht die Frau eines fremden Mannes außerhalb der Familie werden. Ihr Schwager soll sich ihrer annehmen, sie heiraten und die Schwagerehe mit ihr vollziehen.
The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
Der erste Sohn, den sie gebiert, soll den Namen des verstorbenen Bruders weiterführen. So soll dessen Name in Israel nicht erlöschen.
However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.”
Wenn der Mann aber seine Schwägerin nicht heiraten will und seine Schwägerin zu den Ältesten ans Tor hinaufgeht und sagt: Mein Schwager will dem Namen seines Bruders in Israel keinen Bestand sichern und hat es deshalb abgelehnt, mit mir die Schwagerehe einzugehen!,
Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, “I do not want to marry her,”
wenn die Ältesten seiner Stadt ihn dann vorladen und zur Rede stellen, er aber bei seiner Haltung bleibt und erklärt: Ich will sie nicht heiraten!,
his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, “This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother’s family line.”
dann soll seine Schwägerin vor den Augen der Ältesten zu ihm hintreten, ihm den Schuh vom Fuß ziehen, ihm ins Gesicht spucken und ausrufen: So behandelt man einen, der seinem Bruder das Haus nicht baut.
That man’s line shall be known in Israel as The Family of the Unsandaled.
Ihm soll man in Israel den Namen geben: Barfüßerhaus.

Wenn zwei Männer, ein Mann und sein Bruder, miteinander raufen und die Frau des einen hinzukommt, um ihren Mann aus der Hand des andern, der auf ihn einschlägt, zu befreien, und wenn sie die Hand ausstreckt und dessen Schamteile ergreift,
you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.
dann sollst du ihr die Hand abhacken. Du sollst in dir kein Mitleid aufsteigen lassen.
Do not have two differing weights in your bag — one heavy, one light.
Du sollst in deinem Beutel nicht zwei verschiedene Gewichte haben, ein größeres und ein kleineres.
Do not have two differing measures in your house — one large, one small.
Du sollst in deinem Haus nicht zwei verschiedene Efa haben, ein größeres und ein kleineres.
You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Volle und richtige Gewichte sollst du haben, volle und richtige Hohlmaße sollst du haben, damit du lange in dem Land lebst, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt.
For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.
Denn alle, die so etwas tun, alle Betrüger, sind dem HERRN ein Gräuel.
Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt.
Denk daran, was Amalek dir unterwegs angetan hat, als ihr aus Ägypten zogt:
When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.
wie er unterwegs auf dich stieß und, als du müde und matt warst, ohne jede Gottesfurcht alle erschöpften Nachzügler von hinten niedermachte.
When the Lord your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dir vor allen deinen Feinden ringsum Ruhe verschafft hat in dem Land, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir als Erbbesitz gibt, damit du es in Besitz nimmst, dann lösche die Erinnerung an Amalek unter dem Himmel aus! Du sollst nicht vergessen.
