since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
Denn ihr verlangt einen Beweis dafür, dass durch mich Christus spricht, der nicht in seiner Schwachheit, sondern in seiner Kraft unter euch wirkt.
For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him in our dealing with you.
Zwar wurde er in seiner Schwachheit gekreuzigt, aber er lebt aus Gottes Kraft. Auch wir sind schwach in ihm, aber wir werden zusammen mit ihm vor euren Augen aus Gottes Kraft leben.
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you — unless, of course, you fail the test?
Fragt euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid, prüft euch selbst! Erfahrt ihr nicht an euch selbst, dass Jesus Christus in euch ist? Sonst hättet ihr ja schon versagt.
And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.
Ich hoffe aber, ihr werdet erkennen, dass wir nicht versagt haben.
Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong — not so that people will see that we have stood the test but so that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed.
Doch flehen wir zu Gott, dass ihr nichts Böses tut, nicht, damit wir bewährt erscheinen, sondern nur, damit ihr das Gute tut, wir aber wie Versager dastehen.
For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.
Denn wir vermögen nichts gegen die Wahrheit, nur für die Wahrheit.
We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is that you may be fully restored.
So ist es uns eine Freude, wenn wir schwach dastehen, ihr aber euch als stark erweist. Das ist es, was wir erflehen: eure vollständige Erneuerung.
This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority — the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.
Deswegen schreibe ich das alles aus der Ferne, um nicht, wenn ich zu euch komme, Strenge gebrauchen zu müssen kraft der Vollmacht, die der Herr mir zum Aufbauen, nicht zum Niederreißen gegeben hat.
