Schon bei meinem zweiten Besuch habe ich euch gewarnt. Ich schreibe es jetzt in diesem Brief noch einmal unmissverständlich, und zwar denen, die in ihrer Schuld verharren, und auch allen anderen: Wenn ich wieder bei euch bin, hat meine Nachsicht ein Ende.
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
Ihr selbst wollt ja den Beweis, dass Christus durch mich spricht. Nun, Christus ist euch gegenüber nicht schwach, sondern stark und mächtig.
For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him in our dealing with you.
Als er gekreuzigt wurde, war er schwach; aber jetzt lebt er aus der Kraft Gottes. Auch wir sind schwach, weil wir mit Christus verbunden sind; doch euch gegenüber wird sich zeigen, dass wir mit Christus aus der Kraft Gottes leben.
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you — unless, of course, you fail the test?
Prüft euch! Stellt selbst fest, ob euer Glaube noch lebendig ist! Oder ist bei euch nichts mehr davon zu merken, dass Jesus Christus unter euch lebt? Dann allerdings hättet ihr diese Prüfung nicht bestanden.
And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.
Ich hoffe aber, ihr werdet erkennen, dass wir diese Probe bestanden haben.
Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong — not so that people will see that we have stood the test but so that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed.
Wir beten zu Gott, dass ihr nichts Böses tut, und zwar nicht, damit wir bestätigt werden, sondern allein damit ihr das Gute tut. Es macht uns nichts aus, dass wir in diesem Fall wie Versager dastehen, weil wir dann doch nicht — wie angekündigt — hart durchgegriffen haben.

Gegen Gottes Wahrheit können wir ohnehin nichts ausrichten, wir können nur für sie eintreten.
We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is that you may be fully restored.
