The Birth of Samson

Die Israeliten taten wieder, was in den Augen des HERRN böse ist. Deshalb gab sie der HERR vierzig Jahre lang in die Hand der Philister.
A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth.
Es war ein Mann aus Zora, aus der Sippe der Daniter, namens Manoach; seine Frau war unfruchtbar und hatte nicht geboren.
The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son.
Der Engel des HERRN erschien der Frau und sagte zu ihr: Siehe, du bist unfruchtbar und hast nicht geboren; aber du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären.
Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean.
Und jetzt nimm dich in Acht und trink weder Wein noch Bier und iss nichts Unreines!
You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”
Denn siehe, du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären. Es darf kein Schermesser an seinen Kopf kommen; denn der Knabe wird vom Mutterleib an ein Gott geweihter Nasiräer sein. Er wird damit beginnen, Israel aus der Hand der Philister zu retten.
Then the woman went to her husband and told him, “A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name.
Die Frau ging und sagte zu ihrem Mann: Der Gottesmann ist zu mir gekommen; er sah aus, wie der Engel Gottes aussieht, überaus Furcht erregend. Ich habe ihn nicht gefragt, woher er kam, und er hat mir auch seinen Namen nicht genannt.
But he said to me, ‘You will become pregnant and have a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from the womb until the day of his death.’ ”
Er sagte zu mir: Siehe, du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären. Und von jetzt an trink keinen Wein und kein Bier und iss nichts Unreines; denn der Knabe wird vom Mutterleib an ein Gott geweihter Nasiräer sein, bis zum Tag seines Todes.
Then Manoah prayed to the Lord: “Pardon your servant, Lord. I beg you to let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born.”
Da betete Manoach zum HERRN und sagte: Bitte, mein Herr, der Gottesmann, den du gesandt hast, komme doch noch einmal zu uns und belehre uns, was wir mit dem Knaben machen sollen, der geboren werden soll.
God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her.
Und Gott hörte auf die Stimme Manoachs. Der Engel Gottes kam noch einmal zu der Frau, als sie gerade auf dem Feld war; ihr Mann Manoach war nicht bei ihr.
The woman hurried to tell her husband, “He’s here! The man who appeared to me the other day!”
Die Frau lief schnell und teilte es ihrem Mann mit; sie sagte zu ihm: Siehe, der Mann ist mir erschienen, der damals zu mir gekommen ist.
Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said, “Are you the man who talked to my wife?”
“I am,” he said.
“I am,” he said.
Manoach stand auf und folgte seiner Frau. Als er zu dem Mann kam, fragte er ihn: Bist du der Mann, der mit meiner Frau geredet hat? Er antwortete: Ja, ich bin es.
So Manoah asked him, “When your words are fulfilled, what is to be the rule that governs the boy’s life and work?”
Da sagte Manoach: Wenn sich nun dein Wort erfüllt, wie sollen wir es mit dem Knaben halten, was sollen wir mit ihm tun?
The angel of the Lord answered, “Your wife must do all that I have told her.
Der Engel des HERRN antwortete Manoach: Die Frau soll sich vor all dem hüten, was ich ihr gesagt habe.
She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, nor drink any wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her.”
Nichts, was vom Weinstock kommt, darf sie genießen; weder Wein noch Bier darf sie trinken und nichts Unreines essen. Alles, was ich ihr befohlen habe, muss sie bewahren.
Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you.”
Manoach sagte zum Engel des HERRN: Wir möchten dich gern aufhalten und vor dir ein Ziegenböckchen zubereiten.
The angel of the Lord replied, “Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the Lord.” (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the Lord.)
Aber der Engel des HERRN sagte zu Manoach: Auch wenn du mich aufhieltest, würde ich von deinem Mahl nichts essen. Wenn du aber ein Brandopfer herrichten willst, bring es dem HERRN dar! Manoach wusste nämlich nicht, dass es der Engel des HERRN war.
Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, “What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?”
Manoach fragte den Engel des HERRN: Wie ist dein Name? Wenn eintrifft, was du gesagt hast, möchten wir dir gern Ehre erweisen.
Der Engel des HERRN erwiderte: Warum fragst du nach meinem Namen? Er ist wunderbar.
Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock to the Lord. And the Lord did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched:
Da nahm Manoach das Ziegenböckchen und das Speiseopfer und brachte es auf dem Felsblock dem HERRN dar und er vollbrachte etwas Wunderbares. Manoach und seine Frau sahen zu
As the flame blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground.
und es geschah, als die Flamme vom Altar zum Himmel aufstieg, stieg der Engel des HERRN in der Flamme des Altars mit empor. Als Manoach und seine Frau das sahen, warfen sie sich zu Boden auf ihr Gesicht.
When the angel of the Lord did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the Lord.
Von da an aber erschien der Engel des HERRN dem Manoach und seiner Frau nicht mehr. Da erkannte Manoach, dass es der Engel des HERRN gewesen war,
“We are doomed to die!” he said to his wife. “We have seen God!”
und sagte zu seiner Frau: Sicher müssen wir sterben, weil wir Gott gesehen haben.
But his wife answered, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this.”
Doch seine Frau entgegnete ihm: Wenn der HERR uns hätte töten wollen, hätte er nicht aus unserer Hand Brand- und Speiseopfer angenommen und er hätte uns nicht all das sehen und uns auch jetzt nichts Derartiges hören lassen.
The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him,
Die Frau gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Simson; der Knabe wuchs heran und der HERR segnete ihn.
