David Reigns over All Israel

Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh.

І посхо́дилися всі Ізраїлеві племе́на до Давида в Хевро́н та й сказали йому: „Оце ми кість твоя́ та тіло твоє́ ми!

2

Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.’ ”

І давніш, коли Саул був царем над нами, ти водив Ізраїля на війну і приво́див назад. І Господь тобі сказав: Ти будеш пасти́ наро́да Мого́, Ізра́їля, і ти бу́деш володарем над Ізраїлем“.

Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.

І прийшли всі Ізра́їлеві старші́ в Хевро́н, а цар Давид склав із ними умову в Хевро́ні перед Господнім лицем. І пома́зали вони Давида царем над Ізра́їлем.

David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

Давид був віку тридцяти літ, коли став царюва́ти, і сорок літ царюва́в він.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

У Хевро́ні царював він над Юдою сім літ і шість місяців, а в Єрусалимі царював тридцять і три роки над усім Ізраїлем та Юдою.

The Conquest of Jerusalem

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you,” thinking, “David cannot come in here.”

І пішов цар та люди його до Єрусалиму на Євусе́янина, ме́шканця того Кра́ю. А той сказав Давидові, говорячи: „Ти не вві́йдеш сюди, хіба́ повиганя́єш сліпих та кривих!“ А це значить: Давид ніко́ли не вві́йде сюди!

Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David).

Та Давид здобу́в тверди́ню Сіон, — він став Дави́довим Мі́стом.

Now David said on that day, “Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul), he shall be chief and captain.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.”

І сказав Давид того дня: „Кожен, хто заб'є євусе́янина, нехай скине до кана́лу, а з ним і кривих та сліпих“, зненави́джених для Давидової душі. Тому говорять: „Сліпий та кривий не вві́йде до дому!“

Then David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the City of David. And David built all around from [a]the Millo and inward.

І осі́вся Давид у тверди́ні, і назвав ім'я їй: Давидове Місто. І будува́в Давид навко́ло від Мілло й усере́дині.

So David went on and became great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.

І Давид ставав усе більшим, а Госпо́дь, Бог Саваот, був із ним.

Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters and masons. And they built David a house.

І послав Хіра́м, цар ти́рський, послів до Давида, та ке́дрового де́рева, і теслів, і каменярі́в для стін, і вони збудували дім для Давида.

So David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted His kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

І пересві́дчився Давид, що Господь поставив його міцно царем над Ізраїлем, і що Він підніс царство його ради наро́ду Свого Ізраїля.

And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. Also more sons and daughters were born to David.

А Давид узяв ще нало́жниць та жіно́к з Єрусалиму по ви́ході його з Хеврону, — і народи́лися Давидові ще сини та до́чки.

Now these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: [b]Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Ibhar, [c]Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,

The Philistines Defeated

Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold.

І почули филисти́мляни, що Давида пома́зали царем над Ізраїлем, і вийшли всі филисти́мляни, щоб шукати Давида. І Давид почув про це, і зійшов до тверди́ні.

18

The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.

18

А филисти́мляни прийшли та розташува́лися в долині Рефаїм.

19

So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”
And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

19

А Давид запитався Господа, говорячи: „Чи вихо́дити мені проти филисти́млян? Чи даси́ їх у мою руку?“ І Господь відказав до Давида: „Виходь, бо справді дам филисти́млян у руку твою!“

20

So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place [d]Baal Perazim.

І прийшов Давид до Баал-Пераціму. І побив їх там Давид та й сказав: „Господь розірва́в ворогів моїх передо мною, як розрива́ють во́ди“. Тому він назвав ім'я́ тому місцю: Баал-Перацім.

21

And they left their [e]images there, and David and his men carried them away.

21

І вони полиши́ли там своїх божкі́в, а їх забрав Давид та люди його.

22

Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.

22

А филисти́мляни зно́ву прийшли та розташува́лися в долині Рефаїм.

23

Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.

23

І запита́вся Давид Господа, а Він сказав: „Не виходь, — оточи́ їх з-поза́ду, і прийди́ до них від бальза́мового ліска́.

24

And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”

І станеться, коли ти почуєш ше́лест кро́ку на верхові́ттях бальза́мового ліска́, тоді поспішися, бо то тоді вийшов Господь перед тобою, щоб побити филистимський та́бір“.

25

And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba[f] as far as Gezer.

І Давид зробив так, як наказав йому Господь, — і він побив филисти́млян від Ґеви аж туди, кудою йти до Ґезера.
