The Reigns of Elah, Zimri, Omri, and Ahab

Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani, against Baasha, saying:

1

І було Господнє слово до Єгу́, Хананієвого сина, про Башу́, говорячи:

“Inasmuch as I lifted you out of the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made My people Israel sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins,

„Тому́, що Я підні́с тебе з по́роху, і настановив тебе володарем над Моїм наро́дом, Ізраїлем, а ти пішов Єровоамовою доро́гою та вводив у гріх наро́д Мій, Ізраїля, щоб гніви́ти Мене гріха́ми їх,

surely I will take[a] away the posterity of Baasha and the posterity of his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

то ось Я ви́гублю по Баші та по домі його, — зроблю́ твій дім, як дім Єровоама, Неватового сина.

4

The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the fields.”

Померлого в Баші в місті з'їдять пси, а померлого йому на полі, — поїсть пта́ство небесне“.

Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

So Baasha [b]rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah. Then Elah his son reigned in his place.

І спочив Баша́ зо своїми батька́ми, і був похований в Тірці, а замість нього зацарював син його Ела́.

And also the word of the Lord came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord in provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he killed them.

І було слово Господнє через пророка Єгу, сина Хананієвого, до Баші та до дому його, а то через усе те зло, що ко́їв він у Господніх оча́х, щоб гніви́ти Його чином своїх рук, щоб бути, як Єровоамів дім, що Він побив його.

Elah Reigns in Israel

In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha became king over Israel, and reigned two years in Tirzah.

Двадцять і шостого року Аси, царя Юдиного, зацарював Ела, Башин син, над Ізраїлем у Тірці, на два роки.

9

Now his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him as he was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, steward[c] of his house in Tirzah.

І змовився на нього його раб Зімрі, провідни́к половини колесни́ць. І коли він, п'я́ний, пив у домі Арци, що був над його домом У Тірці,

And Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.

то прийшов Зімрі й убив його, і вбив його в двадцятому й сьомому році Аси, царя Юдиного, та й зацарював замість нього.

Then it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he was seated on his throne, that he killed all the household of Baasha; he did not leave him one male, neither of his relatives nor of his friends.

І сталося, як він зацарював та сів на його троні, то він ви́бив увесь Башин дім, — не позоста́вив навіть того, що мочить на стіну, ані рідних його́, ані дру́зів його́.

12

Thus Zimri destroyed all the household of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord, which He spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

І ви́губив Зімрі ввесь Башин дім, за словом Господа, що промовляв був до Баші через пророка Єгу,

13

for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, by which they had sinned and by which they had made Israel sin, in provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their [d]idols.

13

за всі гріхи́ Баші та гріхи Елі, його сина, що грішили самі, і що вво́дили в гріх Ізраїля, щоб гніви́ти Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, своїми гидо́тами.

Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Zimri Reigns in Israel

In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri had reigned in Tirzah seven days. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

У році двадцятому й сьомому Аси, царя Юдиного, зацарював Зімрі в Тірці на сім день, коли наро́д обляга́в филистимський Ґіббетон.

16

Now the people who were encamped heard it said, “Zimri has conspired and also has killed the king.” So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

І прочу́в наро́д, що облягав, таке: „Змо́вився Зімрі та й убив царя!“ І ввесь Ізра́їль настанови́в царем над Ізраїлем Омрі, провідника́ війська, того дня в табо́рі.

17

Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah.

17

І підняли́ся Омрі та ввесь Ізраїль із ним із Ґіббетону, і облягли́ Тірцу.

18

And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was [e]taken, that he went into the citadel of the king’s house and burned the king’s house [f]down upon himself with fire, and died,

І сталося, як побачив Зімрі, що місто здобуте, то ввійшов до пала́цу царе́вого дому, та й спалив над собою царськи́й дім огнем, і помер

19

because of the sins which he had committed in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he had committed to make Israel sin.

за гріх свій, що грішив ним, щоб робити зло в Господніх оча́х, щоб ходити дорогою Єровоама та в гріху́ його, який він чинив, щоб вводити в гріх Ізраїля.

20

Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the treason he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта діл Зімрі та змова його, що вчинив був, — ось вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.

21

Omri Reigns in Israel

Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri.

21

Тоді Ізраїлів народ поділи́вся пополовині: половина народу була за Тівні, Ґінатового сина, щоб настанови́ти його царем, а половина — за Омрі.

22

But the people who followed Omri prevailed over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri reigned.

22

Та був сильніший наро́д, що стояв за Омрі, від наро́ду, що був за Тівні, Ґінатового сина. І помер Тівні, а зацарюва́в Омрі.

23

In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel, and reigned twelve years. Six years he reigned in Tirzah.

У році тридцятому й першому Аси, царя Юдиного, над Ізраїлем зацарював на дванадцять літ Омрі. У Тірці царював він шість років.

24

And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver; then he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, Samaria,[g] after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill.

І купив він від Шемера го́ру Шомеро́н за два тала́нти срібла, і забудував го́ру, і назвав ім'я́ міста, яке збудував, іменем пана тієї гори: Шомерон.

25

Omri did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all who were before him.

25

І робив Омрі зло в Господніх оча́х, і чинив зло більше від усіх, хто був перед ним.

26

For he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols.[h]

26

І ходив він усією дорогою Єровоама, сина Неватового, та в гріхах його, якими вводив у гріх Ізраїля, щоб гніви́ти Господа, Бога Ізраїля, гидо́тами своїми.

27

Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and the might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта діл Омрі, що робив він, та лица́рськість його, яку він чинив був, — ото вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.

28

So Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. Then Ahab his son reigned in his place.

28

І спочив Омрі з своїми батька́ми, і був похований у Самарії. А замість нього зацарював його син Аха́в.

29

Ahab Reigns in Israel

In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.

Аха́в, син Омрі, зацарював над Ізраїлем у році тридцятому й восьмому Аси, царя Юдиного. І царював Ахав, син Омрі, над Ізраїлем у Самарії двадцять і два роки.

30

Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him.

30

І робив Ахав, син Омрі, зло в Господніх оча́х більше від усіх, хто був перед ним.

31

And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him.

І було́ йому мало ходити в гріхах Єровоама, Неватового сина, — і він узяв за жінку Єзаве́ль, дочку́ Етбаала, сидонського царя. І він пішов, і служив Ваа́лові, і вклонявся йому.

Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

І він поставив же́ртівника для Ваа́ла в Вааловому домі, якого збудував у Шомероні.

And Ahab made a [i]wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

33

І зробив Ахав Астарту. І Ахав далі чинив, щоб гнівити Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, більше від усіх Ізраїлевих царі́в, що були перед ним.

In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation [j]with Abiram his firstborn, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates, according to the word of the Lord, which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun.
