Solomon Prepares to Build the Temple

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always loved David.

А Соломон панував над усіма́ царствами від Річки аж до филистимського кра́ю та аж до границі Єгипту. Вони прино́сили дари та служили Соломонові по всі дні його життя.

Then Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:

І була́ Соломонова пожива на один день: тридцять ко́рів пшеничної муки, а шістдесят ко́рів іншої муки.

You know how my father David could not build a house for the name of the Lord his God because of the wars which were fought against him on every side, until the Lord put [a]his foes under the soles of his feet.

Десятеро з великої ситої худоби, і двадцятеро з худоби великої з паші та сотня худоби дрібно́ї, окрім о́леня, і са́рни, і антило́пи та ситих гусо́к.

But now the Lord my God has given me rest[b] on every side; there is neither adversary nor [c]evil occurrence.

Бо він панував по всій цій стороні Річки від Тіфсаху та аж до Аззи́ над усіма́ царями по цей бік Річки. І був у ньо́го мир зо всіх сторін його навко́ло.

And behold, [d]I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying, “Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name.”

І безпечно сидів Юда та Ізраїль, кожен під своїм виноградником та під своєю фіґою від Дану й аж до Беер-Шеви всі дні Соломона.

Now therefore, command that they cut down cedars for me from Lebanon; and my servants will be with your servants, and I will pay you wages for your servants according to whatever you say. For you know there is none among us who has skill to cut timber like the Sidonians.

І було в Соломона сорок тисяч стійлів для ко́ней колесни́ць його та дванадцять тисяч верхівці́в.

7

So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said,
Blessed be the Lord this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people!

І годували ці намісники царя Соломона та кожного, хто прихо́див до сто́лу царя Соломона, кожен свій місяць, і не було недостачі ні в чо́му.

8

Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying:
I have considered the message which you sent me, and I will do all you desire concerning the cedar and cypress logs.

А ячме́ню та соломи для ко́ней та для румакі́в спроваджували до місця, де хто був, кожен за постановою для нього.

My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you indicate to me, and will have them broken apart there; then you can take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire by giving food for my household.

І дав Бог Соломонові дуже багато мудрости та розуму, а широкість серця — як пісок, що на березі моря.

Then Hiram gave Solomon cedar and cypress logs according to all his desire.

І збільши́лася Соломонова мудрість над мудрість усіх синів сходу та над усю мудрість Єгипту.

And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand [e]kors of wheat as food for his household, and [f]twenty kors of pressed oil. Thus Solomon gave to Hiram year by year.

І був він мудрі́ший від усякого чоловіка, — від Етана езрахітського, і Гемана, і Калкола та Дарди, Махолових синів. А ім'я́ його було славне серед усіх людей навко́ло.

So the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.

І він проказав три тисячі при́казок, а пісень його було — тисяча й п'ять.

13

Then King Solomon raised up a labor force out of all Israel; and the labor force was thirty thousand men.

І говорив він про дере́ва, від кедру, що на Лива́ні, й аж до ісо́пу, що росте на стіні. І говорив про худобу, і про пта́ства, і про плазу́юче та про риб.

14

And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month in shifts: they were one month in Lebanon and two months at home; Adoniram was in charge of the labor force.

І прихо́дили від усіх народів, щоб послу́хати Соломонову мудрість, від усіх царів кра́ю, що чули про мудрість його.

15

Solomon had seventy thousand who carried burdens, and eighty thousand who quarried stone in the mountains,

І послав Хіра́м, цар Тиру, своїх слуг до Соломона, бо почув, що його пома́зали на царя на місце батька його, бо Хіра́м був при́ятелем Давидовим по всі дні.

besides three thousand [g]three hundred from the chiefs of Solomon’s deputies, who supervised the people who labored in the work.

І послав Соломон до Хірама, говорячи:

And the king commanded them to quarry large stones, costly stones, and hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the [h]temple.

„Ти знаєш мого батька Давида, що не міг він збудувати дому для Імени Господа, Бога свого, через ві́йни, що ото́чували його, аж поки Господь не віддав їх, ворогів, під сто́пи ніг його.

18

So Solomon’s builders, Hiram’s builders, and the Gebalites quarried them; and they prepared timber and stones to build the [i]temple.

18

А тепер Госпо́дь, Бог мій, дав мені відпочи́нок навко́ло, — нема противника, і нема злого випа́дку.
