The People Confess Their Sins

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with [a]dust on their heads.

На двадцать четвёртый день того же месяца израильтяне собрались на пост. На них были одежды печали, а головы их были посыпаны пеплом.

2

Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

Эти люди, настоящие израильтяне, отделились от чужеземцев. Израильтяне стояли в храмеи исповедовались в своих грехах и в грехах своих предков.

And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.

Люди стояли там около трёх часов и читали книгу закона Господа, Бога своего. Затем ещё три часа они исповедовались в своих грехах и стояли на коленях, поклоняясь Господу, Богу своему.

Then Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani stood on the [b]stairs of the Levites and cried out with a loud voice to the Lord their God.

Затем некоторые левиты стали на ступеньки: Иисус, Вания, Кадмиил, Шевания, Вунний, Шеревия, Вания и Хенани. Они взывали к Господу, Богу своему, громкими голосами.

And the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said:
“Stand up and bless the Lord your God
Forever and ever!
“Blessed be Your glorious name,
Which is exalted above all blessing and praise!

Затем снова говорили следующие левиты: Иисус, Кадмиил, Вания, Хашавния, Шеревия, Годия, Шевания и Петахия. Они сказали: "Встаньте и славьте Господа, Бога вашего!" Бог жил вечно! И вечно будет жить! Славное имя Твоё люди должны восхвалять! Пусть будет имя Твоё выше всякой похвалы и благословения!

You alone are the Lord;
You have made heaven,
The heaven of heavens, with all their host,
The earth and everything on it,
The seas and all that is in them,
And You preserve them all.
The host of heaven worships You.

Ты — Бог! Господи, только Ты — Бог! Ты создал небо! Ты создал небеса и всё, что на них! Ты создал землю и всё, что на ней! Ты создал моря и всё, что в них! Ты дал всему жизнь! И ангелы небесные поклоняются Тебе!

“You are the Lord God,
Who chose Abram,
And brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans,
And gave him the name Abraham;

Господи, Ты — Бог. Ты выбрал Аврама, Ты вывел его из Ура Халдейского, и Ты назвал его Авраамом.

8

You found his heart faithful before You,
And made a covenant with him
To give the land of the Canaanites,
The Hittites, the Amorites,
The Perizzites, the Jebusites,
And the Girgashites —
To give it to his descendants.
You have performed Your words,
For You are righteous.

Ты видел, что он был верным и преданным Тебе, и Ты заключил с ним соглашение. Ты обещал дать ему землю, которая принадлежала хананеям, хеттеям, аморреям, ферезеям, иевусеям, гергесеям. Ты обещал дать землю эту потомкам Авраама, и обещание Своё сдержал Ты, Потому что добр Ты!

“You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt,
And heard their cry by the Red Sea.

Ты видел, как страдали в Египте предки наши. И у моря Красного слышал Ты их крик о помощи.

10

You showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh,
Against all his servants,
And against all the people of his land.
For You knew that they acted [c]proudly against them.
So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.

Ты показал чудеса фараону. Ты делал удивительные вещи с его приближёнными и с народом его. Ты знал, что египтяне считают, что они лучше, чем наши предки. Но Ты доказал, как Ты велик, и они помнят это до сих пор!

11

And You divided the sea before them,
So that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land;
And their persecutors You threw into the deep,
As a stone into the mighty waters.

Ты Красное море рассёк перед ними, и по сухой земле прошли они! Ты бросил в море наших врагов, и они утонули, как камень в воде.

12

Moreover You led them by day with a cloudy pillar,
And by night with a pillar of fire,
To give them light on the road
Which they should travel.

Ты днём их в облаке высоком вёл, а ночью в огненном столпе. Ты тропу им освещал, куда идти указывал Ты им.

13

“You came down also on Mount Sinai,
And spoke with them from heaven,
And gave them just ordinances and true laws,
Good statutes and commandments.

Затем сошёл Ты на гору Синай. С небес Ты с ними говорил. Ты им хорошие законы дал. Ты справедливые заветы дал им. Ты дал им заповеди и верные уставы.

14

You made known to them Your holy Sabbath,
And commanded them precepts, statutes and laws,
By the hand of Moses Your servant.

Ты им рассказал о Твоём особом дне отдыха — субботе. Через слугу Твоего, Моисея, Ты заповеди дал им, и законы, и уставы.

15

You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger,
And brought them water out of the rock for their thirst,
And told them to go in to possess the land
Which You had [d]sworn to give them.

Они голодали, и Ты дал еду им с небес. Они хотели пить, и Ты им дал воду из камня. И Ты сказал им: "Идите, возьмите эту землю". Использовал Ты мощь Свою, и землю Ты забрал для них!

16

“But they and our fathers acted [e]proudly,
Hardened[f] their necks,
And did not heed Your commandments.

Но эти люди, наши предки, возгордились, упрямыми стали. Указам Твоим подчиняться они отказались.

17

They refused to obey,
And they were not mindful of Your wonders
That You did among them.
But they hardened their necks,
And [g]in their rebellion
They appointed a leader
To return to their bondage.
But You are God,
Ready to pardon,
Gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger,
Abundant in kindness,
And did not forsake them.

Они отказались слушать тебя. Они забыли чудеса, которые Ты с ними делал! В своём упрямстве, следуя за Мириам, они вернулись в рабство! Но Ты Бог, который прощает! Ты добр и полон милосердия. Ты терпелив и полон любви. И Ты не оставил их!

18

“Even when they made a molded calf for themselves,
And said, ‘This is your god
That brought you up out of Egypt,’
And worked great provocations,

Ты не оставил их даже тогда, когда, сделав тельцов золотых, они сказали: "Вот Боги, которые вывели нас из Египта!"

19

Yet in Your manifold mercies
You did not forsake them in the wilderness.
The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day,
To lead them on the road;
Nor the pillar of fire by night,
To show them light,
And the way they should go.

Ты очень милостив: Ты в пустыне их не оставил, у них не отобрал Ты высокого облака днём. Ты продолжал вести их. И ночью огненный столп Ты у них не отобрал. Ты продолжал освещать их путь и показывал, куда идти.

20

You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them,
And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth,
And gave them water for their thirst.

20

Ты дал им Свой добрый Дух, чтобы сделать мудрыми их. Ты им манну давал для еды, и воду давал, чтобы жажду их утолить.

21

Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness;
They lacked nothing;
Their clothes did not wear out
And their feet did not swell.

21

Ты сорок лет заботился о них! У них было всё, в чём нуждались они в пустыне. Одежды их не изнашивались. И ноги у них не пухли и не болели.

22

“Moreover You gave them kingdoms and nations,
And divided them into [h]districts.
So they took possession of the land of Sihon,
[i]The land of the king of Heshbon,
And the land of Og king of Bashan.

Господи, Ты дал им царства и народы. Ты дал им далёкие земли, где немного людей живёт. Они получили землю Сигона, царя Есевонского, и землю Ога, царя Васанского.

23

You also multiplied their children as the stars of heaven,
And brought them into the land
Which You had told their fathers
To go in and possess.

23

Ты сделал их потомков многочисленными, как звёзды в небесах. И Ты привёл их в землю, которую Ты обещал дать их предкам. Они вошли и взяли эту землю.

24

So the [j]people went in
And possessed the land;
You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land,
The Canaanites,
And gave them into their hands,
With their kings
And the people of the land,
That they might do with them as they wished.

Получив эту землю, они покорили хананеев, живших там, Ты им позволил покорить их! Всё, что они хотели, Ты позволил делать им с этими народами, людьми, царями!

25

And they took strong cities and a rich land,
And possessed houses full of all goods,
Cisterns already dug, vineyards, olive groves,
And [k]fruit trees in abundance.
So they ate and were filled and grew fat,
And delighted themselves in Your great goodness.

Сильные города они захватили. Они получили плодородную землю. Они обрели дома, полные добра, и уже вырытые колодцы. Виноградники взяли они, сады оливковые и фруктовые деревья! Они ели, наедались и толстели, наслаждаясь всеми благами, которые Ты дал им, —

“Nevertheless they were disobedient
And rebelled against You,
Cast Your law behind their backs
And killed Your prophets, who [l]testified against them
To turn them to Yourself;
And they worked great provocations.

26

и против Тебя они восстали! Они отбросили Твои заветы! Они убили Твоих пророков. Пророки те людей предупреждали и возвратить к Тебе пытались их. Но наши предки с Тобою плохо поступали,

27

Therefore You delivered them into the hand of their enemies,
Who oppressed them;
And in the time of their trouble,
When they cried to You,
You heard from heaven;
And according to Your abundant mercies
You gave them deliverers who saved them
From the hand of their enemies.

и Ты врагам позволил захватить их, и принесли враги им много бед. Когда беда пришла, то наши предки к Тебе за помощью взывали. И в небесах Ты их услышал. Ты очень милостив, — людей послал Ты, чтоб спасти их, и эти люди спасли их от врагов.

28

“But after they had rest,
They again did evil before You.
Therefore You left them in the hand of their enemies,
So that they had dominion over them;
Yet when they returned and cried out to You,
You heard from heaven;
And many times You delivered them according to Your mercies,

Затем, как только наши предки отдохнули, так снова стали делать то же зло! И Ты врагу позволил их разбить и наказать их. Они к Тебе за помощью воззвали. И в небесах Ты их услышал и помог им. Ты очень милостив! Случалось это очень много раз!

29

And [m]testified against them,
That You might bring them back to Your law.
Yet they acted [n]proudly,
And did not heed Your commandments,
But sinned against Your judgments,
‘Which if a man does, he shall live by them.’
And they shrugged their shoulders,
[o]Stiffened their necks,
And would not hear.

Ты их предупреждал. Ты говорил им возвратиться, но были слишком гордыми они. Указы Твои слушать отказались. Когда люди подчиняются Твоим законам, тогда они живут честно! Но наши предки нарушили Твои законы, — они упрямы были. Они от Тебя отвернулись, отказавшись слушать.

30

Yet for many years You had patience with them,
And [p]testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets.
Yet they would not listen;
Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

30

Ты к нашим предкам проявлял великое терпенье. Ты много лет им позволял с Тобою плохо поступать. Твоим Ты Духом их предупреждал. Ты посылал пророков, чтобы их предостеречь. Но наши предки не слушались, и Ты отдал их чужеземным народам.

31

Nevertheless in Your great mercy
You did not utterly consume them nor forsake them;
For You are God, gracious and merciful.

31

Но Ты такой добрый! Ты полностью не уничтожил их, Ты не оставил их. Ты добрый и милостивый Бог!

32

“Now therefore, our God,
The great, the mighty, and awesome God,
Who keeps covenant and mercy:
Do not let all the [q]trouble seem small before You
That has come upon us,
Our kings and our princes,
Our priests and our prophets,
Our fathers and on all Your people,
From the days of the kings of Assyria until this day.

32

Боже наш, ты — великий Бог, страшный и сильный воин! Ты добр и милостив! Ты хранишь Свой завет! У нас много бед, и беды наши важны для Тебя! Несчастья постигли всех наших людей, и наших царей, и вождей, и священников наших, и наших пророков. Эти несчастья случались со времён царя Ассирийского и до сих пор!

33

However You are just in all that has befallen us;
For You have dealt faithfully,
But we have done wickedly.

33

Но, Боже, Ты был прав — во всём, что с нами случилось, Ты был прав. А мы были не правы.

34

Neither our kings nor our princes,
Our priests nor our fathers,
Have kept Your law,
Nor heeded Your commandments and Your testimonies,
With which You testified against them.

34

Наши цари, вожди, священники и предки не подчинялись Твоему закону. Они не слушались Твоих указов, и на Твои предупреждения внимания не обращали.

35

For they have not served You in their kingdom,
Or in the many good things that You gave them,
Or in the large and rich land which You set before them;
Nor did they turn from their wicked works.

35

Наши предки Тебе не служили и зло они творить не прекращали даже тогда, когда жили в царстве своём. Они наслаждались всеми прекрасными вещами, которые Ты им дал. Они наслаждались богатой землёй, и было у них много места, но дел неправедных своих они не прекращали.

36

“Here we are, servants today!
And the land that You gave to our fathers,
To eat its fruit and its bounty,
Here we are, servants in it!

36

И вот теперь рабы мы. Рабы мы в этой земле. В земле, которую Ты предкам нашим дал, чтобы они её плодами наслаждались, и всем добром, что здесь произрастает.

37

And it yields much increase to the kings
You have set over us,
Because of our sins;
Also they have dominion over our bodies and our cattle
At their pleasure;
And we are in great distress.

37

Урожай в этой земле большой. Но мы грешили, и этот урожай принадлежит царям, которых Ты поставил над нами. В их власти мы и скот наш. Они делают всё, что хотят, и мы в большой беде.

38

“And because of all this,
We make a sure covenant and write it;
Our leaders, our Levites, and our priests seal it.”

Поэтому мы заключаем соглашение, которое не может быть нарушено. Мы соглашение это записываем. Наши вожди, левиты и священники подписывают это соглашение и скрепляют его печатью.
