In der Stadt stöhnen die Sterbenden. Menschen werden umgebracht, laut schreien sie um Hilfe, doch Gott zieht die Mörder nicht zur Rechenschaft!

Sie sind Feinde des Lichts. Was hell und wahr ist, das kennen sie nicht; nein, sie gehen ihm beharrlich aus dem Weg.

Noch vor dem Morgengrauen zieht der Mörder los, er bringt den Armen und Wehrlosen um. Wie der Dieb treibt er in der Nacht sein Unwesen.
Auch der Ehebrecher wünscht sich die Dämmerung herbei. ›Mich sieht keiner!‹, denkt er und verhüllt sein Gesicht.

Ja, nachts brechen sie in die Häuser ein, aber tagsüber halten sie sich versteckt. Sie alle scheuen das Licht.

Tiefe Dunkelheit — das ist ihr Morgenlicht! Mit den Schrecken der Nacht sind sie bestens vertraut.«

»Der Gottlose vergeht wie Schaum auf dem Wasser; schwer lastet Gottes Fluch auf seinem Land. Sein Weinberg verödet, weil er ihn nicht mehr bearbeiten kann.
Sonne und Wärme lassen den Schnee im Nu verschwinden, genauso reißt der Tod jeden Sünder plötzlich aus dem Leben.

Dann laben sich die Würmer an ihm; sogar von seiner Mutter wird er vergessen. Nie mehr wird jemand an ihn denken, der Schuldige wird zerbrochen wie trockenes Holz.
Er hat die kinderlose Frau ausgebeutet, der Witwe hat er nichts Gutes getan.
“But God draws the mighty away with His power;

Solche Machthaber reißt Gott in seiner Kraft hinweg; wenn er sich erhebt, sind sie ihres Lebens nicht mehr sicher.

Mag sein, dass er sie in Ruhe lässt und sie sich in Sicherheit wiegen — er überwacht doch unablässig ihre Wege.
Nur für kurze Zeit stehen sie auf der Höhe ihrer Macht, dann ist es vorbei mit ihnen. Wie die Ähren werden sie gepackt und abgeschnitten.
