Elihu Contradicts Job’s Friends

So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Як же ті трі мужі вже не відказували Йовові, тим що він себе мав за праведного,

Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused against Job; his wrath was aroused because he justified himself rather than God.

Тодї запалав гнївом Еліуй Барахиїленко, з Бузу, з роду Рамового; а запалав гнїв його на Йова за те, що виправдував себе більш, анїж Бога;

Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

А на трьох другів його досадував за те, що не знайшли влучної відповідї, а тільки винуватили Йова.

Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited [a]to speak to Job.

Еліуй же ждав, покіль Йов говорив, бо ті були старші його віком.

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused.

Як же побачив Еліуй, що уста тих трьох мужів не вміли більш відказувати, то й запалав гнївом.

So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said:
“I am young in years, and you are very old;
Therefore I was afraid,
And dared not declare my opinion to you.

От і озвавсь Еліуй Барахиїленко з Бузу так: Я молодий, а ви вже старцї: я боявсь висказувати мою думку.

I said, [b]‘Age should speak,
And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’

Я собі думав: Нехай говорять днї, і многі лїта навчають мудростї.

8

But there is a spirit in man,
And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.

8

Але дух у чоловіцї та вдохновеннє від Вседержителя дають йому розум.

9

Great[c] men are not always wise,
Nor do the aged always understand justice.

9

Не самі ж тільки многолїтні розумні, та й не самі старцї знають правду.

10

“Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me,
I also will declare my opinion.’

От чому я говорю. Тим то вислухайте мене, виповім і я те, що знаю.

11

Indeed I waited for your words,
I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say.

Ось, я вижидав, що ви казати мете, — вслуховавсь у ваші розсуджування, докіль ви придумували, що б сказати.

12

I paid close attention to you;
And surely not one of you convinced Job,
Or answered his words —

Пильно дивився на вас, та ось нї один із вас не спромігся доказати провину Йову, ба вже й перестали відповідати на слова його.

13

Lest you say,
‘We have found wisdom’;
God will vanquish him, not man.

13

Не говоріте: ми знайшли мудрість у йому, й хиба Бог опрокине його, а не чоловік.

14

Now he has not [d]directed his words against me;
So I will not answer him with your words.

От же, коли б він обертав слова свої до мене, я б не по вашому вмів на його річ відказати.

15

“They are dismayed and answer no more;
Words escape them.

Полякались, мовчять, перестали говорити.

16

And I have waited, because they did not speak,
Because they stood still and answered no more.

16

А коли я жду, а вони не говорять, з'упинились і вже не відказують,

17

I also will answer my part,
I too will declare my opinion.

17

То я відкажу й виявлю мою думку.

18

For I am full of words;
The spirit within me compels me.

18

Повен я слова, й дух мій в менї розпирає мене.

19

Indeed my [e]belly is like wine that has no [f]vent;
It is ready to burst like new wineskins.

19

Справдї, нутро моє, як молоде вино в зачиненій посудинї: воно готове розпукнутись, неначе міх новий.

20

I will speak, that I may find relief;
I must open my lips and answer.

20

Виговорюсь; стане менї легче; відчиню уста мої й відкажу.

21

Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone;
Nor let me flatter any man.

Не дивити мусь на лице чоловіка й нїякому чоловікові лестити не буду,

22

For I do not know how to flatter,
Else my Maker would soon take me away.

Лестити бо я не вмію, нехай би й зараз убив мене Творець мій!
