Bildad: Job Should Repent

Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

1

Заговорив Білдад із Шуаху та й мовив:

2

“How long will you speak these things,
And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

2

«Доки ж таке говоритимеш,
і слова твоїх уст будуть, неначе буревій?

3

Does God subvert judgment?
Or does the Almighty pervert justice?

3

Чи то ж Бог перекручує право,
і Всемогутній кривить справедливість?

4

If your sons have sinned against Him,
He has cast them away [a]for their transgression.

4

Коли діти твої згрішили проти нього,
то він і видав їх у руки їхніх переступів.

5

If you would earnestly seek God
And make your supplication to the Almighty,

5

Ти ж, якіцо будеш шукати Бога,
як Всемогутнього будеш благати,

6

If you were pure and upright,
Surely now He would [b]awake for you,
And prosper your rightful dwelling place.

як будеш чистий, правий,
то він тепер напевне дбатиме про тебе
й обновить тобі домівку правди.

7

Though your beginning was small,
Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.

7

І твоє перше щастя буде маленьким,
та сильно забуяє те, що прийде.

8

“For inquire, please, of the former age,
And consider the things discovered by their fathers;

Спитай лишень у давніх поколінь,
уважай на досвід предків,

9

For we were born yesterday, and know [c]nothing,
Because our days on earth are a shadow.

9

бо ми, вчорашні, не знаємо нічого,
тінь на землі — дні наші.

10

Will they not teach you and tell you,
And utter words from their heart?

10

Вони навчать тебе і тобі скажуть,
візьмуть науку зо свого серця.

11

“Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?
Can the reeds flourish without water?

Хіба росте тростина без мочару?
Чи очерет буяє на безвідді?

12

While it is yet green and not cut down,
It withers before any other plant.

12

Ще в повному цвіту він, ще не стятий,
а вже раніш, ніж інша трава, в'яне.

13

So are the paths of all who forget God;
And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish,

13

Отака доля всіх, що забувають Бога,
надія ж нечестивого пропаща.

14

Whose confidence shall be cut off,
And whose trust is [d]a spider’s web.

14

Його надія — нитка,
а певність — павутиння.

15

He leans on his house, but it does not stand.
He holds it fast, but it does not endure.

15

Обіпреться об дім свій, та цей не встоїться;
ухопиться за нього, — не вдержиться.

16

He grows green in the sun,
And his branches spread out in his garden.

16

Він повний сил на сонці,
його галуззя поза сад сягає;

17

His roots wrap around the rock heap,
And look for a place in the stones.

17

поміж каміння вплітається його коріння
і врізується в саме серце скелі.

18

If he is destroyed from his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’

Та коли вирвуть його з його місця,
воно зрікається його: "Я тебе не знаю!"

19

“Behold, this is the joy of His way,
And out of the earth others will grow.

19

Тож так гниє він на дорозі,
коли з землі вже інші виростають.

20

Behold, God will not [e]cast away the blameless,
Nor will He uphold the evildoers.

20

О ні! Безвинного Бог не відштовхує,
ані злочинцеві руки не простягає.

21

He will yet fill your mouth with laughing,
And your lips with [f]rejoicing.

21

Він ще наповнить уста твої сміхом,
уста твої веселим окликом.

22

Those who hate you will be clothed with shame,
And the dwelling place of the wicked [g]will come to nothing.”

22

І ворогів твоїх стид укриє,
і намет нечестивих зникне.»
