    The [a]burden against the Wilderness of the Sea.
    As whirlwinds in the South pass through,
    So it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.

    Ausspruch über die Meerwüste: Wie Stürme im Negeb dahinfahren, so kommt es aus der Wüste, aus einem Furcht erregenden Land.

    A distressing vision is declared to me;
    The treacherous dealer deals treacherously,
    And the plunderer plunders.
    Go up, O Elam!
    Besiege, O Media!
    All its sighing I have made to cease.

    Eine harte Vision wurde mir kundgetan: Der Betrüger betrügt, der Verwüster verwüstet. Zieh herauf, Elam! Medien, beginne mit der Belagerung! All ihrem Seufzen mache ich ein Ende.

    Therefore my loins are filled with pain;
    Pangs have taken hold of me, like the pangs of a woman in labor.
    I was [b]distressed when I heard it;
    I was dismayed when I saw it.

    Darum sind meine Hüften voll Zittern, Wehen haben mich ergriffen wie die Wehen einer Gebärenden. Verstört bin ich vom Hören, entsetzt vom Sehen.

    My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me;
    The night for which I longed He turned into fear for me.

    Mein Herz ist verwirrt, ein Schauder hat mich befallen. Die Abenddämmerung, meine Lust, hat er mir zum Schrecken gemacht.

    Prepare the table,
    Set a watchman in the tower,
    Eat and drink.
    Arise, you princes,
    Anoint the shield!

    Den Tisch bereiten, die Polster ordnen, essen und trinken! Steht auf, ihr Fürsten, salbt den Schild!

    For thus has the Lord said to me:
    “Go, set a watchman,
    Let him declare what he sees.”

    Denn so hat der Herr zu mir gesagt: Geh, stell einen Späher auf! Was er sieht, soll er kundtun.

    And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen,
    A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels,
    And he listened earnestly with great care.

    Sieht er Wagen und Pferdegespanne, einen Zug von Eseln, einen Zug von Kamelen, soll er darauf achten, genau darauf achten.

    [c]Then he cried, “A lion, my Lord!
    I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime;
    I have sat at my post every night.

    Da rief der Seher: Auf dem Spähposten, Herr, stehe ich unablässig am Tag und auf meinem Wachtposten stehe ich bereit alle Nächte.

    And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!”
    Then he answered and said,
    “Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
    And all the carved images of her gods
    He has broken to the ground.”

    Und siehe, da kam es: ein Zug von Männern, Pferdegespanne. Da hob er an und sagte: Gefallen, gefallen ist Babel und all ihre Götterbilder hat man zu Boden geschmettert.

    Oh, my threshing and the grain of my floor!
    That which I have heard from the Lord of hosts,
    The God of Israel,
    I have declared to you.

    Du, mein gedroschenes Volk und Sohn meiner Tenne! Was ich gehört habe vom HERRN der Heerscharen, vom Gott Israels, das habe ich euch kundgetan.

    Proclamation Against Edom

    The [d]burden against Dumah.
    He calls to me out of Seir,
    “Watchman, what of the night?
    Watchman, what of the night?”

    Ausspruch über Duma. Aus Seïr ruft man mir zu: Wächter, wie lang ist noch die Nacht? Wächter, wie lang ist noch die Nacht?

    The watchman said,
    “The morning comes, and also the night.
    If you will inquire, inquire;
    Return! Come back!”

    Der Wächter hat gesagt: Der Morgen ist gekommen und doch ist es Nacht. Wenn ihr fragen wollt, so fragt! Kommt noch einmal!

    Proclamation Against Arabia

    The [e]burden against Arabia.
    In the forest in Arabia you will lodge,
    O you traveling companies of Dedanites.

    Ausspruch in Arabien. Im Gebüsch, in der Steppe verbringt die Nacht, ihr Karawanen der Dedaniter!

    O inhabitants of the land of Tema,
    Bring water to him who is thirsty;
    With their bread they met him who fled.

    Bringt dem Durstigen Wasser, Bewohner des Landes von Tema! Kommt dem Fliehenden entgegen mit Brot für ihn!

    For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword,
    From the bent bow, and from the distress of war.

    Denn vor den Schwertern sind sie geflohen, vor dem gezückten Schwert, vor dem gespannten Bogen, vor des Krieges Schwere.

    For thus the Lord has said to me: “Within a year, according to the year of a hired man, all the glory of Kedar will fail;

    Denn so hat der Herr zu mir gesagt: In noch einem Jahr — wie Söldnerjahre — , dann wird es aus sein mit der ganzen Macht Kedars.

    and the remainder of the number of archers, the mighty men of the people of Kedar, will be diminished; for the Lord God of Israel has spoken it.”

    Und der Überrest der Bogenzahl für die Helden der Söhne Kedars wird gering sein. Ja, der HERR, der Gott Israels, hat gesprochen.
