»Du Mensch, stimm ein Klagelied über Tyrus an!
Sag zu der Stadt, die den Zugang zum Meer beherrscht und mit vielen Küstenvölkern Handel treibt: So spricht Gott, der HERR: Tyrus, du behauptest, von vollendeter Schönheit zu sein.

Das Meer ist dein Zuhause, und deine Erbauer haben dich wunderschön wie ein Schiff gestaltet:
Deine Planken bauten sie mit Zypressenholz vom Senir, den Mast fertigten sie aus Zedern vom Libanon an.
Für deine Ruder nahmen sie Eichen aus Baschan, das Deck bauten sie mit Wacholderholz aus Zypern und verkleideten es mit Elfenbein.

Alles, was dir gehört, stürzt dann in die Fluten: deine Waren, deine Seeleute und Matrosen, die Männer, die deine Lecks ausbessern, deine Kaufleute und Soldaten. Ja, wenn du fällst, versinkt deine ganze Pracht mit dir im Meer.
Die Küsten erzittern, wenn sie das laute Geschrei deiner Besatzung hören.

Als deine Kaufleute über die Ozeane segelten, haben sie vielen Völkern Schätze gebracht. Deine Waren ließen Könige aus allen Winkeln der Erde zu großem Reichtum gelangen.
