God’s Punishments Have Not Reformed Israel

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria,
Who oppress the poor,
Who crush the needy,
Who say to [a]your husbands, “Bring wine, let us drink!”

Послухайте сло́ва оцього, коро́ви баша́нські, які на горі самарі́йській, що тиснете бідних, торо́щите вбогих, що своїм хазяя́м ви говорите: „Принеси, і ми бу́демо пити!“

The Lord God has sworn by His holiness:
“Behold, the days shall come upon you
When He will take you away with fishhooks,
And your posterity with fishhooks.

Присягав Господь Бог Своєю святістю, що ось дні настаю́ть на вас, і будуть тягти вас гака́ми, а ваших наща́дків — гачка́ми для ло́влення риби!

You will go out through broken walls,
Each one straight ahead of her,
And you will [b]be cast into Harmon,”
Says the Lord.

І ви повихо́дите ви́ломами, кожна окремо собі, і ки́нетеся до Хермо́ну, говорить Госпо́дь.

“Come to Bethel and transgress,
At Gilgal multiply transgression;
Bring your sacrifices every morning,
Your tithes every three [c]days.

Прийдіть до Бет-Елу й грішіть, до Ґілґа́лу — примно́жте грішити. І свої жертви прино́сьте щора́нку, на три дні — ваші десятини.

Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven,
Proclaim and announce the freewill offerings;
For this you love,
You children of Israel!”
Says the Lord God.

І з димом пустіть жертву вдячну квасну́, і сповістіть добровільні дару́нки, розголосі́ть, бо ви любите так, сино́ве Ізраїлеві, говорить Господь Бог.

Israel Did Not Accept Correction

“Also I gave you [d]cleanness of teeth in all your cities,
And lack of bread in all your places;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

І тому́ Я вам дав чистоту́ зубів по всіх ваших міста́х, і брак хліба по всіх ваших місця́х, та ви не верну́лись до Мене, говорить Госпо́дь.

“I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.

І Я стримав вам дощ за три місяці перед жнива́ми, і дощ посилав на одне місто, а на друге місто не посилав; одна діля́нка була побита дощем, а ділянка, на яку не пустив Я дощу, висиха́ла.

So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

І два-три мі́ста рушали до міста одно́го напитись води, але́ не наси́чувались, — та ви не вернулись до Мене, говорить Госпо́дь.

9

“I blasted you with blight and mildew.
When your gardens increased,
Your vineyards,
Your fig trees,
And your olive trees,
The locust devoured them;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я бив вас посу́хою та зеленя́чкою, сарана́ жерла бе́зліч ваших садків й виноградників ваших, і ваших фіґо́вниць та ваших олив, — та ви не верну́лись до Мене, говорить Госпо́дь.

10

“I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt;
Your young men I killed with a sword,
Along with your captive horses;
I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я на вас посилав морови́цю, немов на Єгипет, мечем побивав ваших хло́пців, поло́нячи ра́зом і ко́ней у вас, підіймав до нізде́р сморід ваших табо́рів, — та ви не вернулись до Мене, говорить Господь.

11

“I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я ви́нищив вас, як Содо́м та Гомо́рру Бог винищив, і ви стали, немов голове́шка, з пожа́ру врято́вана, — та ви не вернулись до Мене, говорить Господь.

12

“Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

Тому́ то зроблю́ тобі так, о Ізраїлю, а що Я зроблю́ тобі це, приготуйся, Ізраїлю, до зу́стрічі Бога свого́!

For behold,
He who forms mountains,
And creates the [e]wind,
Who declares to man what [f]his thought is,
And makes the morning darkness,
Who treads the high places of the earth —
The Lord God of hosts is His name.

Бо це Той, що вформо́вує гори, і що ство́рює вітра, що люди́ні показує за́дум її, що робить зірни́цю темно́тою, і ступає по згі́р'ях землі, — Господь Бог Савао́т Йому Йме́ння!
