Vision of the Locusts

Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the [a]beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings.

Господь Бог учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось Він утворив сарану́, коли почала вироста́ти ота́ва, — і ось ота́ва як по сіноко́сі царсько́му!

And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:
“O Lord God, forgive, I pray!
Oh,[b] that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”

І сталось, як вона вже поже́рла траву на землі, я сказав: Господи, Боже, прости́! Як же Яків устояти може, бо такий він мали́й?

So the Lord relented concerning this.
“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

І Господь пожалів був про те. „Не станеться це“, промовив Госпо́дь.

Vision of the Fire

Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called [c]for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the [d]territory.

Господь Бог учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось Господь Бог покликав судитись огнем, і поже́р той велику безо́дню, і ча́стку пожер.

Then I said:
“O Lord God, cease, I pray!
Oh, that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”

І сказав я: О, Господи, Боже, спини́! Як же Яків усто́яти може, бо такий він мали́й?

So the Lord relented concerning this.
“This also shall not be,” said the Lord God.

І Господь пожалів був про те. „Не ста́неться й це!“ сказав Господь Бог!

Vision of the Plumb Line

Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand.

І Він знов учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось на мурі стрімко́му стоїть Господь Бог, а в руці Його висо́к.

And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
And I said, “A plumb line.”
Then the Lord said:
“Behold, I am setting a plumb line
In the midst of My people Israel;
I will not pass by them anymore.

І про́мовив до мене Господь: „Що ти бачиш, Амо́се?“ А я відказав: „Виска́“. І промовив Господь: „Ось Я цього виска́ покладу посеред народу Мого, Ізраїля, — уже більше йому не прощу́!

The [e]high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
And the [f]sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

І спустоші́ють жерто́вні підгі́рки Ісакові, і поруйно́вані будуть святині Ізраїлеві, і Я ста́ну з мечем на дім Єровоамів“.

Amaziah’s Complaint

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to [g]bear all his words.

І послав Амація, священик Бет-Елу, до Єровоама, царя Ізраїлевого, кажучи: „Амо́с змо́влюється на тебе серед Ізраїлевого дому, — не може земля змістити всіх його слів!

For thus Amos has said:
‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From their own land.’ ”

Бо так говорить Амос: Євровоам помре від меча, а Ізраїль конче пі́де на вигна́ння з своєї землі!“

Then Amaziah said to Amos:
“Go, you seer!
Flee to the land of Judah.
There eat bread,
And there prophesy.

І сказав Амація до Амоса: „Яснови́дче, іди, утікай собі до Юдиного кра́ю, і їж там хліб, і там пророкуй.

13

But never again prophesy at Bethel,
For it is the king’s [h]sanctuary,
And it is the royal [i]residence.”

А в Бет-Елі вже більше не будеш пророкува́ти, бо він святиня царя та дім царства“.

Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:
“I was no prophet,
Nor was I a son of a prophet,
But I was a sheepbreeder
And a tender of sycamore fruit.

І відповів Амос і сказав до Амації: „Я не пророк, і не син я пророків, — я пастух та обро́блювач диких фіґо́вниць.

15

Then the Lord took me [j]as I followed the flock,
And the Lord said to me,
‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’

15

І взяв мене Госпо́дь від отари, і промовив до мене Госпо́дь: Іди, пророкуй Моєму наро́дові Ізраїлеві!

16

Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord:
You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
And do not [k]spout against the house of Isaac.’

А тепер послухай Господнього слова: Ти кажеш: Не будеш пророкува́ти на Ізраїля, і не будеш пропові́дувати на Ісаків дім.

17

“Therefore thus says the Lord:
‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
Your land shall be divided by survey line;
You shall die in a defiled land;
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From his own land.’ ”

Тому так промовляє Господь: Твоя жінка в місті буде блудли́ва, і сини твої та до́чки твої попа́дають від меча, а земля твоя буде поді́лена шнуром, і ти помреш на нечистій землі, а Ізраїль конче пі́де на вигна́ння з своєї землі!“
