New King James Version

New Living Translation

  • Jesus Transfigured on the Mount

    Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
  • The Transfiguration

Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone.
  • and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
  • As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.
  • And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
  • Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.
  • Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
  • Peter exclaimed, “Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorialsa — one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
  • While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
  • But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”
  • And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
  • The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.
  • But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”
  • Then Jesus came over and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”
  • When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
  • And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
  • Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”
  • As they went back down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen until the Son of Manb has been raised from the dead.”
  • And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
  • Then his disciples asked him, “Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?c
  • Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming [b]first and will restore all things.
  • Jesus replied, “Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready.
  • But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”
  • But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer.”
  • Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
  • Then the disciples realized he was talking about John the Baptist.
  • A Boy Is Healed

And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,

  • Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said,
  • “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is [c]an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
  • “Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water.
  • So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
  • So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”
  • Then Jesus answered and said, “O [d]faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
  • Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.”
  • And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
  • Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well.
  • Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
  • Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”
  • So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [e]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
  • “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.d
