Marriage and Divorce

Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.

Und es geschah, als Jesus diese Reden beendet hatte, verließ er Galiläa und zog in das Gebiet von Judäa jenseits des Jordan.

And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.

Viele Menschen folgten ihm nach und er heilte sie dort.

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

Da kamen Pharisäer zu ihm, um ihn zu versuchen, und fragten: Darf man seine Frau aus jedem beliebigen Grund aus der Ehe entlassen?

And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who [a]made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’

Er antwortete: Habt ihr nicht gelesen, dass der Schöpfer sie am Anfang männlich und weiblich erschaffen hat

and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?

und dass er gesagt hat: Darum wird der Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und sich an seine Frau binden und die zwei werden ein Fleisch sein?

So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Sie sind also nicht mehr zwei, sondern ein Fleisch. Was aber Gott verbunden hat, das darf der Mensch nicht trennen.

They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

Sie sagten zu ihm: Wozu hat dann Mose vorgeschrieben, der Frau eine Scheidungsurkunde zu geben und sie aus der Ehe zu entlassen?

He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

Er antwortete: Nur weil ihr so hartherzig seid, hat Mose euch gestattet, eure Frauen aus der Ehe zu entlassen. Am Anfang war das nicht so.

And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for [b]sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

Ich sage euch: Wer seine Frau entlässt, obwohl kein Fall von Unzucht vorliegt, und eine andere heiratet, der begeht Ehebruch.

His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”

Da sagten seine Jünger zu ihm: Wenn das Verhältnis des Mannes zur Frau so ist, dann ist es nicht gut zu heiraten.

Jesus Teaches on Celibacy

But He said to them, “All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given:

Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Nicht alle können dieses Wort erfassen, sondern nur die, denen es gegeben ist.

For there are [c]eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”

Denn manche sind von Geburt an zur Ehe unfähig, manche sind von den Menschen dazu gemacht und manche haben sich selbst dazu gemacht — um des Himmelreiches willen. Wer es erfassen kann, der erfasse es.

Jesus Blesses Little Children

Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.

Da brachte man Kinder zu ihm, damit er ihnen die Hände auflegte und für sie betete. Die Jünger aber wiesen die Leute zurecht.

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Doch Jesus sagte: Lasst die Kinder und hindert sie nicht, zu mir zu kommen! Denn Menschen wie ihnen gehört das Himmelreich.

And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.

Dann legte er ihnen die Hände auf und zog von dort weiter.

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good[d] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

Und siehe, da kam ein Mann zu Jesus und fragte: Meister, was muss ich Gutes tun, um das ewige Leben zu gewinnen?

So He said to him, [e]“Why do you call Me good? [f]No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Er antwortete: Was fragst du mich nach dem Guten? Nur einer ist der Gute. Wenn du aber in das Leben eintreten willst, halte die Gebote!

He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’

Darauf fragte er ihn: Welche? Jesus antwortete: Du sollst nicht töten, du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen, du sollst nicht stehlen, du sollst kein falsches Zeugnis geben;

‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

ehre Vater und Mutter! Und: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst!

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept [g]from my youth. What do I still lack?”

Der junge Mann erwiderte ihm: Alle diese Gebote habe ich befolgt. Was fehlt mir noch?

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn du vollkommen sein willst, geh, verkauf deinen Besitz und gib ihn den Armen; und du wirst einen Schatz im Himmel haben; und komm, folge mir nach!

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Als der junge Mann das hörte, ging er traurig weg; denn er hatte ein großes Vermögen.

With God All Things Are Possible

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Da sagte Jesus zu seinen Jüngern: Amen, ich sage euch: Ein Reicher wird schwer in das Himmelreich kommen.

And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Nochmals sage ich euch: Leichter geht ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr, als dass ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes gelangt.

When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

Als die Jünger das hörten, gerieten sie ganz außer sich vor Schrecken und sagten: Wer kann dann noch gerettet werden?

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Jesus sah sie an und sagte zu ihnen: Für Menschen ist das unmöglich, für Gott aber ist alles möglich.

Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”

Da antwortete Petrus: Siehe, wir haben alles verlassen und sind dir nachgefolgt. Was werden wir dafür bekommen?

So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus erwiderte ihnen: Amen, ich sage euch: Wenn die Welt neu geschaffen wird und der Menschensohn sich auf den Thron der Herrlichkeit setzt, werdet auch ihr, die ihr mir nachgefolgt seid, auf zwölf Thronen sitzen und die zwölf Stämme Israels richten.

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [h]or wife or children or [i]lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

Und jeder, der um meines Namens willen Häuser oder Brüder oder Schwestern oder Vater oder Mutter oder Kinder oder Äcker verlassen hat, wird dafür das Hundertfache erhalten und das ewige Leben erben.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

Viele Erste werden Letzte sein und Letzte Erste.
