Satan Tempts Jesus

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit [a]into the wilderness,

Ісус же, Духа сьвятого повний, вернувсь од Йордану, і був ведений Духом у пустиню,

2

being [b]tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

і сорок днїв спокушуваний від диявола. І не їв нічого днїв тих, а як скінчились вони, опісля зголоднїв.

3

And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

3

І каже Йому диявол: Коли ти Син Божий, скажи каменеві сьому, щоб став ся хлїбом.

4

But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, [c]but by every word of God.’ ”

4

І озвавсь Ісус до него, глаголючи: Писано, що не хлїбом самим жити ме чоловік, а кожним словом Божим.

5

[d]Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

І вивівши Його диявол на гору високу, показав Йому всї царства вселенної в одну хвилину.

6

And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

6

І каже Йому диявол: Тобі дам власть оцю всю і славу їх, бо менї передано, й кому я схочу, дам її.

7

Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

7

Ти ж коли поклониш ся передо мною, буде твоє все.

8

And Jesus answered and said to him, [e]“Get behind Me, Satan! [f]For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

8

І, озвавшись до него, рече Ісус: Геть від мене, сатано, писано бо: Кланяти меш ся Господеві Богу твоєму, й Йому одному служити меш.

9

Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.

І повів він Його в Єрусалим, і поставив Його на крилї церковньому, й каже Йому: Коли ти Син Божий, кинь ся звідсїля вниз:

10

For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you,’

10

писано бо: Що ангелам своїм накаже про Тебе, оберегати Тебе,

11

and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”

11

і що на руках підіймуть Тебе, щоб инколи не вдаривсь об камінь ногою Твоєю.

12

And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not [g]tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

12

І озвавшись рече йому Ісус: Що сказано: Не будеш спокушувати Господа Бога твого.

13

Now when the devil had ended every [h]temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.

І скінчивши всї спокуси, диявол одійшов од Него до часу.

14

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry

Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.

14

І вернувсь Ісус у силї Духа в Галилею; і поголос розійшов ся по всїй околицї про Него,

15

And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

15

І навчав Він по школах їх, славлений од усїх.

16

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

16

І прийшов у Назарет, де був зрощений, і прийшов звичаєм своїм, субітнього дня в школу, і став читати.

17

And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

І подано Йому книгу Ісаїї пророка. І, розгорнувши книгу, знайшов місце, де було написано:

18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me [i]to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are [j]oppressed;

Дух Господень на менї, котрого ради намастив мене; благовістити вбогим післав мене, сцїляти розбитих серцем, проповідувати полонянам визвіл і слїпим прозріннє, випускати замучених на волю,

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

проповідувати рік Господень приятний.

20

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

20

І, згорнувши книгу, віддав слузї, та й сїв. І очі всїх у школї були звернені на Него.

21

And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

21

Почав же глаголати до них: Що сьогоднї справдилось писаннє се в ушах ваших.

22

So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”

22

І всї сьвідкували Йому, й дивувались благодатнїми словами, виходячими з уст Його. І казали: Хиба сей не син Йосифів?

23

He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum,[k] do also here in Your country.’ ”

І рече до них: Певно скажете менї приповість оцю: Лїкарю, вилїчи себе самого; про що ми чули, що сталось у Капернаумі, зроби й тут у своїй країнї.

24

Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.

24

Рече ж: Істино глаголю вам: Що нї один пророк не єсть приятен в отчинї своїй.

25

But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;

25

По правдї ж глаголю вам: Багато вдовиць було за днїв Ілиї в Ізраїлї, як зачинилось небо на три роки й шість місяцїв, і голоднеча велика стала по всїй землї;

26

but to none of them was Elijah sent except to [l]Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.

та й до жодної з них не послано Ілиї, тільки в Сарепту Сидонську до жінки вдовицї.

27

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”

27

І багато прокаженних було за Єлисея пророка в Ізраїлї, та й жоден з них не очистивсь, тільки Неєман Сириянин.

28

So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with [m]wrath,

І сповнились усї лютостю в школї, почувши се,

29

and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff.

29

і вставши вигнали Його геть із города, і випровадили Його аж на верх гори, на котрій город їх збудовано, щоб скинути Його.

Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.

Він же, пройшовши серед них, пійшов,

Jesus Casts Out an Unclean Spirit

Then He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths.

31

і прийшов у Капернаум, город Галилейський, і навчав їх по суботам.

32

And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority.

32

І дивувались вони наукою Його, бо з властю було слово Його.

33

Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice,

33

І був у школї чоловїк, маючи духа нечистого, й кричав голосом великим,

34

saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are — the Holy One of God!”

34

кажучи: Остав; що нам і Тобі, Ісусе Назарянине? чи прийшов єси вигубити нас? Я знаю Тебе, хто єси: Сьвятий Божий.

35

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, [n]“Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.

35

І погрозив йому Ісус, глаголючи: Мовчи й вийди з него. І кинувши ним диявол на середину, вийшов з него, нїчого не зашкодивши йому.

36

Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”

36

І обняв страх усїх, і говорили один до одного, кажучи: Що се за слово, що властю і силою повелїває нечистим духам, і виходять?

37

And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

37

І розійшов ся поголос про Него скрізь по всїй околицї.

38

Peter’s Mother-in-Law Healed

Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was [o]sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her.

38

Уставши ж Він із школи, ввійшов у господу Симонову. Тещу ж Симонову схопила пропасниця велика, й благали Його за неї.

39

So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

39

І, ставши над нею, погрозив пропасницї, і покинула її; зараз же уставши, послугувала їм.

40

Many Healed After Sabbath Sunset

When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.

40

Як же заходило сонце, всї, в кого були недужі на всякі недуги, приводили їх до Него; Він же, на кожного з них руки складаючи, сцїляв їх.

41

And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are [p]the Christ, the Son of God!”
And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to [q]speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.

Виходили ж і біси з многих, і кричали, кажучи: Що Ти єси Христос, Син Божий. І грозячи, не давав їм говорити, бо вони знали, що Він Христос.

42

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them;

42

Як же настав день, вийшовши пійшов у пусте місце; й люде шукали Його, й прийшли до Него, й вдержували Його, щоб не йшов від них.

43

but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”

43

Він же рече до них: Що й иншим городам благовістити менї треба царство Боже; бо на се я посланий.

44

And He was preaching in the synagogues of [r]Galilee.

44

І проповідував по школах Галилейських.
