Destructive Doctrines

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

А між людом були́ й неправдиві пророки, як і бу́дуть між вас учителі неправдиві, що впрова́дять згубні єресі, відречу́ться від Влади́ки, що викупив їх, і стягнуть на себе самі скору погибіль.

And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

І багато-хто пі́дуть за пожадливістю їхньою, а через них доро́га правдива знева́житься.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction [a]does not slumber.

І в заже́рливості вони бу́дуть ловити вас словами обле́сними. Суд на них відда́вна не ба́риться, а їхня загибіль не дрімає!

Doom of False Teachers

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to [b]hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

Бо як Бог анголі́в, що згрішили, не помилував був, а в кайда́нах те́мряви вкинув до а́ду, і передав зберігати на суд;

and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;

і Він не помилував першого світу, а зберіг самово́сьмого Но́я, проповідника праведности, і навів пото́п на світ безбожних;

and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;

і міста́ Содо́м і Гомо́рру спопели́в, засудивши на зни́щення, і дав при́клада для майбутніх безбожників,

and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked

а врятував праведного Ло́та, змученого поводженням розпусних людей, —

(for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) —

бо цей праведник, живши між ними, день-у-день мучив свою праведну душу, ба́чачи й чуючи вчинки безбожні, —

9

then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

9

то вміє Господь рятувати побожних від спокуси, а неправедних берегти на день суду для кари,

10

and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of [c]dignitaries,

а надто тих, хто ходить за нечистими пожадли́востями тіла та погорджує вла́дою; зухвалі свавільці, що не бояться зневажати слави,

11

whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

хоч анголи́, бувши міццю та силою більші за них, не несуть до Господа знева́жливого суду на них.

Depravity of False Teachers

But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,

Вони, немов звірина́ нерозумна, зроджена природою на зло́влення та загибіль, зневажають те, чого не розуміють, і в тлінні своїм будуть знищені,

and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to [d]carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, [e]carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,

і при́ймуть запла́ту за лихі вчинки. Вони повсякденну розпусту вважають за ро́зкіш; самі бруд та неслава, вони насолоджуються своїми оманами, бенкету́ючи з вами.

having eyes full of [f]adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.

Їхні очі напо́внені пере́любом та гріхом безупинним; вони зва́блюють душі незмі́цнені; вони, діти прокляття, мають серце, привче́не до заже́рливости.

They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Вони покинули про́сту дорогу та й заблудили, і пішли слідо́м за Валаа́мом Бео́ровим, що полюбив нагороду несправедливости,

but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

але був докорений у своїм беззако́нні: німа під'яре́мна ослиця проговорила лю́дським голосом, та й бе́зум пророка спинила.

17

These are wells without water, [g]clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness [h]forever.

Вони — джере́ла безводні, хмари, бурею гнані; для них пригото́ваний мо́рок те́мряви!

Deceptions of False Teachers

For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who [i]have actually escaped from those who live in error.

Бо, висло́влюючи марне́ базі́кання, вони зваблюють пожадливістю ті́ла й розпустою тих, хто ледве втік від тих, хто живе в розпусті.

19

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of [j]corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into [k]bondage.

Вони волю обіцюють їм, самі бувши рабами тління. Бо хто ким переможений, той тому й раб.

20

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

Бо коли хто втече від нечистости світу через пізна́ння Господа й Спасителя Ісуса Христа, а пото́му знов заплутуються ними та перемагаються, — то останнє буває для них гірше першого.

21

For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

Бо краще було б не пізнати їм дороги праведности, аніж, пізнавши, вернутись назад від пере́даної їм святої заповіді!

But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

22

Бо їм трапилося за правдивою при́казкою: „Вертається пес до своєї блюво́тини“, та: „Помита свиня йде валятися в калюжу“.
