    The Greatest Gift

    Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

    Коли я говорю́ мовами лю́дськими й а́нгольськими, та любови не маю, — то став я як мідь та дзвінка́ або бу́бон гудя́чий!

    And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

    І коли маю дара пророкува́ти, і знаю всі таємни́ці й усе знання́, і коли маю всю віру, щоб навіть гори переставля́ти, та любови не маю, — то я ніщо!

    And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

    І коли я роздам усі маєтки свої, і коли я відда́м своє тіло на спа́лення, та любови не маю, — то пожитку не матиму жа́дного!

    Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up;

    Любов довготе́рпить, любов милосе́рдствує, не за́здрить, любов не величається, не надима́ється,

    does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil;

    не пово́диться нечемно, не шукає тільки свого, не рветься до гніву, не ду́має лихо́го,

    does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

    не радіє з неправди, але тішиться правдою,

    bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

    усе зно́сить, вірить у все, сподіва́ється всього, усе те́рпить!

    Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

    Ніко́ли любов не перестає! Хоч пророцтва й існують, — та припи́няться, хоч мови існують, — замо́вкнуть, хоч існує знання́, — та скасу́ється.

    For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

    Бо ми знаємо части́нно, і пророкуємо частинно;

    But when that which is [d]perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

    коли ж досконале настане, тоді зупиниться те, що частинне.

    When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

    Коли я дити́ною був, то я говорив, як дити́на, як дити́на я ду́мав, розумів, як дитина. Коли ж мужем я став, то відкинув дитя́че.

    For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

    Отож, тепер бачимо ми ніби у дзе́ркалі, у за́гадці, але по́тім — обличчям в обличчя; тепер розумію частинно, а по́тім пізна́ю, як і пі́знаний я.

    And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

    А тепер залиша́ються віра, надія, любов, — оці три. А найбільша між ними — любов!
