New King James Version

English Standard Version

  • Pray for All Men

    Therefore I [a]exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
  • Pray for All People

    First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
  • for kings and all who are in [b]authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and [c]reverence.
  • for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
  • For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
  • This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
  • who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
  • who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
  • For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
  • For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the mana Christ Jesus,
  • who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
  • who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
  • for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle — I am speaking the truth [d]in Christ and not lying — a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
  • For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
  • Men and Women in the Church

    I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
  • I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
  • in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and [e]moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,
  • likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,
  • but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.
  • but with what is proper for women who profess godliness — with good works.
  • Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.
  • Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.
  • And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.
  • I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
  • For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
  • For Adam was formed first, then Eve;
  • And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
  • and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
  • Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
  • Yet she will be saved through childbearing — if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
