The Loveless Church

“To the [a]angel of the church of Ephesus write,
‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:

An den Engel der Gemeinde in Ephesus schreibe: So spricht Er, der die sieben Sterne in seiner Rechten hält und mitten unter den sieben goldenen Leuchtern einhergeht:

“I know your works, your labor, your [b]patience, and that you cannot [c]bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;

Ich kenne deine Taten und deine Mühe und deine Geduld und weiß, dass du die Bösen nicht ertragen kannst. Du hast die auf die Probe gestellt, die sich Apostel nennen und es nicht sind, und hast sie als Lügner befunden.

and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.

Du legst Geduld an den Tag und hast um meines Namens willen Schweres ertragen und bist nicht müde geworden.

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Aber ich habe gegen dich: Du hast deine erste Liebe verlassen.

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place — unless you repent.

Bedenke, aus welcher Höhe du gefallen bist! Kehr zurück zu deinen ersten Taten! Wenn du nicht umkehrst, werde ich zu dir kommen und deinen Leuchter von seiner Stelle wegrücken.

But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Doch für dich spricht: Du verabscheust das Treiben der Nikolaiten, das auch ich verabscheue.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

Wer Ohren hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt: Wer siegt, dem werde ich zu essen geben vom Baum des Lebens, der im Paradies Gottes steht.

The Persecuted Church

“And to the [d]angel of the church in Smyrna write,
‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life:

An den Engel der Gemeinde in Smyrna schreibe: So spricht Er, der Erste und der Letzte, der tot war und wieder lebendig wurde:

“I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a [e]synagogue of Satan.

Ich kenne deine Bedrängnis und deine Armut; und doch bist du reich. Und ich kenne die Lästerung von denen, die sagen, sie seien Juden; sie sind es aber nicht, sondern sind eine Synagoge des Satans.

Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Fürchte dich nicht vor dem, was du noch erleiden musst! Siehe, der Teufel wird einige von euch ins Gefängnis werfen, um euch auf die Probe zu stellen, und ihr werdet in Bedrängnis sein, zehn Tage lang. Sei treu bis in den Tod; dann werde ich dir den Kranz des Lebens geben.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” ’

Wer Ohren hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt: Wer siegt, dem kann der zweite Tod nichts anhaben.

The Compromising Church

“And to the [f]angel of the church in Pergamos write,
‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword:

An den Engel der Gemeinde in Pergamon schreibe: So spricht Er, der das scharfe, zweischneidige Schwert trägt:

“I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

Ich weiß, wo du wohnst: dort, wo der Thron des Satans steht. Und doch hältst du an meinem Namen fest und hast den Glauben an mich nicht verleugnet, auch nicht in den Tagen, als Antipas, mein treuer Zeuge, bei euch getötet wurde, dort, wo der Satan wohnt.

But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.

Aber etwas habe ich gegen dich: Bei dir gibt es Leute, die an der Lehre Bileams festhalten, der Balak lehrte, den Söhnen Israels eine Falle zu stellen, sodass sie Götzenopferfleisch aßen und Unzucht trieben.

Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, [g]which thing I hate.

So gibt es auch bei dir Leute, die in gleicher Weise an der Lehre der Nikolaiten festhalten.

Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

Kehr also um! Sonst komme ich bald und werde sie mit dem Schwert in meinem Mund bekämpfen.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” ’

Wer Ohren hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt: Wer siegt, dem werde ich von dem verborgenen Manna geben. Ich werde ihm einen weißen Stein geben und auf dem Stein steht ein neuer Name geschrieben, den nur der kennt, der ihn empfängt.

The Corrupt Church

“And to the [h]angel of the church in Thyatira write,
‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:

An den Engel der Gemeinde in Thyatira schreibe: So spricht der Sohn Gottes, der Augen hat wie Feuerflammen und Beine wie Golderz:

“I know your works, love, [i]service, faith, and your [j]patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.

Ich kenne deine Taten, deine Liebe und deinen Glauben, dein Dienen und deine Geduld und ich weiß, dass du in letzter Zeit mehr getan hast als am Anfang.

Nevertheless I have [k]a few things against you, because you allow [l]that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, [m]to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.

Aber ich habe gegen dich, dass du Isebel, eine Frau, gewähren lässt; sie gibt sich als Prophetin aus und lehrt meine Knechte und verführt sie, Unzucht zu treiben und Götzenopferfleisch zu essen.

And I gave her time to [n]repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

Ich habe ihr Zeit gelassen umzukehren; sie aber will nicht umkehren und von ihrer Unzucht ablassen.

Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of [o]their deeds.

Siehe, ich werfe sie auf das Krankenbett und alle, die mit ihr Ehebruch treiben, bringe ich in große Bedrängnis, wenn sie sich nicht abkehren vom Treiben dieser Frau.

I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches[p] the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

Ihre Kinder werde ich töten, der Tod wird sie treffen und alle Gemeinden werden erkennen, dass ich es bin, der Herz und Nieren prüft, und ich werde jedem von euch vergelten gemäß seinen Taten.

“Now to you I say, [q]and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I [r]will put on you no other burden.

Aber euch Übrigen in Thyatira, denen, die dieser Lehre nicht folgen und die Tiefen des Satans, wie sie es nennen, nicht erkannt haben, euch sage ich: Ich lege euch keine andere Last auf.

But hold fast what you have till I come.

Aber was ihr habt, das haltet fest, bis ich komme!

And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations —

Wer siegt und bis zum Ende an den Werken festhält, die ich gebiete, dem werde ich Macht über die Völker geben.

‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’ —
as I also have received from My Father;

Er wird sie weiden mit eisernem Zepter und sie zerschlagen wie Tongeschirr;

and I will give him the morning star.

wie auch ich solche Macht von meinem Vater empfangen habe, und ich werde ihm den Morgenstern geben.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’

Wer Ohren hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt.
