Ruth Meets Boaz
There was a relative of Naomi’s husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz.

In Bethlehem wohnte ein Mann namens Boas, der aus derselben Sippe stammte wie Noomis verstorbener Mann Elimelech. Boas war wohlhabend und einflussreich.
So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.”
And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
Eines Tages sagte Ruth zu ihrer Schwiegermutter: »Ich möchte auf die Felder gehen und dort die Ähren auflesen, die von den Erntearbeitern nicht mitgenommen wurden. Irgendjemand wird es mir sicher erlauben.« »Ja«, antwortete Noomi, »geh nur!«
Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.
Auf einem der Felder ging Ruth hinter den Erntearbeitern her und sammelte die Ähren auf, die sie liegen ließen. Sie wusste nicht, dass gerade dieses Feld Boas aus der Sippe von Elimelech gehörte.
Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!”
And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!”
And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!”
Als Boas nun von Bethlehem zu seinen Arbeitern aufs Feld kam, begrüßte er sie: »Der HERR sei mit euch!« Sie antworteten: »Der HERR segne dich!«
Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”
Boas erkundigte sich bei dem Mann, der die Arbeiter beaufsichtigte: »Zu wem gehört diese junge Frau da?«
So the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered and said, “It is the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.
»Sie ist eine Moabiterin, die mit Noomi aus Moab zurückgekehrt ist«, erwiderte der Mann.
And she said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came and has continued from morning until now, though she rested a little in the house.”
»Sie hat mich gefragt, ob sie dort, wo deine Männer schon waren, die liegen gebliebenen Ähren auflesen darf. Seit dem frühen Morgen ist sie bereits da und hat sich noch kaum in den Schatten gesetzt.«
Then Boaz said to Ruth, “You will listen, my daughter, will you not? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here, but stay close by my young women.
Da sagte Boas zu Ruth: »Ich mache dir einen Vorschlag: Du brauchst nicht auf ein anderes Feld zum Ährenlesen zu gehen; bleib hier bei meinen Mägden,
Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn.”

So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”
Da warf Ruth sich vor ihm nieder und fragte: »Womit habe ich das verdient? Warum beachtest du mich, obwohl ich eine Ausländerin bin?«
And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.
Boas antwortete: »Man hat mir berichtet, wie du seit dem Tod deines Mannes deiner Schwiegermutter beigestanden hast. Deine Eltern und dein Land hast du verlassen und dich einem Volk angeschlossen, das du vorher nicht kanntest.
The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”
Du bist zum HERRN, dem Gott Israels, gekommen, um bei ihm Schutz und Zuflucht zu finden. Möge er alle deine Taten reich belohnen!«
Da sagte sie: »Mein Herr, ich danke dir für deine große Freundlichkeit! Deine Worte geben mir Mut und Hoffnung. Du schenkst mir deine Gunst, obwohl ich doch viel geringer als deine Mägde bin.«
Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.
Als es Zeit zum Essen war, rief Boas Ruth zu sich. »Komm hierher und iss etwas Brot!«, forderte er sie auf. »Du kannst es auch in den Weinessig tunken.« Ruth setzte sich zu seinen Leuten, und Boas reichte ihr geröstete Getreidekörner. So konnte sie sich satt essen und behielt sogar noch etwas übrig.
Als sie aufstand, um weiterzuarbeiten, befahl Boas seinen Männern: »Lasst sie auch dort sammeln, wo die Garben noch nicht weggeräumt sind, und macht ihr deshalb keine Vorwürfe!
Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.”
Zieht sogar absichtlich Ähren aus den Bündeln heraus und lasst sie dort für sie liegen. Kein böses Wort soll sie von euch hören!«
So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
Bis zum Abend arbeitete Ruth auf dem Feld. Als sie die Ähren ausklopfte, hatte sie etwa 15 Kilogramm Gerste beisammen.
Then she took it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. So she brought out and gave to her what she had kept back after she had been satisfied.
Sie brachte das Getreide nach Hause und zeigte es ihrer Schwiegermutter. Dann gab sie ihr die gerösteten Körner, die sie vom Mittagessen übrig behalten hatte.
And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? And where did you work? Blessed be the one who took notice of you.”
So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”

»Wo hast du nur so viel sammeln können?«, fragte Noomi. »Erzähl mir, wo du gewesen bist. Gott segne den, der so freundlich zu dir war!« Ruth berichtete: »Der Mann, der mich auf sein Feld gelassen hat, hieß Boas.«
»Der HERR segne ihn!«, rief Noomi erfreut. »Denn er hat uns nicht unserem Schicksal überlassen, der Name unserer Männer wird nicht vergessen werden! Du musst wissen: Boas ist ein naher Verwandter von uns und darum nach dem Gesetz verpflichtet, uns zu helfen.«
Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also said to me, ‘You shall stay close by my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’ ”
Ruth erzählte weiter: »Boas hat mir angeboten, immer in der Nähe seiner Arbeiter die Ähren aufzulesen, bis die ganze Ernte eingebracht ist!«
»Es ist gut, wenn du mit seinen Mägden hinausgehst«, meinte Noomi, »auf einem anderen Feld würde man dich vielleicht belästigen.«
