During the night God spoke to him in a vision. “Jacob! Jacob!” he called.
“Here I am,” Jacob replied.
“Here I am,” Jacob replied.
Da sprach Gott in einer nächtlichen Vision zu Israel: Jakob! Jakob! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich!
Gott sprach: Ich bin Gott, der Gott deines Vaters. Fürchte dich nicht, nach Ägypten hinabzuziehen; denn zu einem großen Volk mache ich dich dort.
I will go with you down to Egypt, and I will bring you back again. You will die in Egypt, but Joseph will be with you to close your eyes.”
Ich selbst ziehe mit dir hinunter nach Ägypten und ich führe dich auch selbst wieder herauf. Josef wird dir die Augen zudrücken.
So Jacob left Beersheba, and his sons took him to Egypt. They carried him and their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had provided for them.
Jakob brach von Beerscheba auf. Die Söhne Israels hoben ihren Vater Jakob, ihre Kinder und ihre Frauen auf die Wagen, die der Pharao geschickt hatte, um ihn zu holen.
They also took all their livestock and all the personal belongings they had acquired in the land of Canaan. So Jacob and his entire family went to Egypt —

These are the names of the descendants of Israel — the sons of Jacob — who went to Egypt:

The sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul. (Shaul’s mother was a Canaanite woman.)

The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

These were the sons of Leah and Jacob who were born in Paddan-aram, in addition to their daughter, Dinah. The number of Jacob’s descendants (male and female) through Leah was thirty-three.

The sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah. Their sister was Serah. Beriah’s sons were Heber and Malkiel.

These were the sons of Zilpah, the servant given to Leah by her father, Laban. The number of Jacob’s descendants through Zilpah was sixteen.
Das waren die Söhne Silpas, die Laban seiner Tochter Lea mitgegeben hatte; sie alle hatte sie Jakob geboren, sechzehn Personen.
The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

These were the sons of Rachel and Jacob. The number of Jacob’s descendants through Rachel was fourteen.
Das waren die Söhne Rahels, die Jakob geboren worden waren, insgesamt vierzehn Personen.
The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
Die Söhne Naftalis: Jachzeel, Guni, Jezer und Schillem.
These were the sons of Bilhah, the servant given to Rachel by her father, Laban. The number of Jacob’s descendants through Bilhah was seven.
Das waren die Söhne Bilhas, die Laban seiner Tochter Rahel mitgegeben hatte. Sie alle hatte Bilha Jakob geboren, insgesamt sieben Personen.
The total number of Jacob’s direct descendants who went with him to Egypt, not counting his sons’ wives, was sixty-six.
Die Gesamtzahl der Personen, die mit Jakob nach Ägypten gekommen und aus seiner Lende hervorgegangen waren, betrug ohne die Frauen der Söhne Jakobs insgesamt sechsundsechzig Personen.
Dazu kommen die Söhne Josefs, die ihm in Ägypten geboren worden waren, zwei Personen. Insgesamt waren vom Haus Jakob siebzig Personen nach Ägypten gekommen.
Jacob’s Family Arrives in Goshen
As they neared their destination, Jacob sent Judah ahead to meet Joseph and get directions to the region of Goshen. And when they finally arrived there,
Jakob schickte Juda voraus zu Josef, damit er ihm den Weg nach Goschen weise. So kamen sie ins Land Goschen.
Joseph prepared his chariot and traveled to Goshen to meet his father, Jacob. When Joseph arrived, he embraced his father and wept, holding him for a long time.
Josef ließ seinen Wagen anspannen und zog seinem Vater Israel nach Goschen entgegen. Als er ihn sah, fiel er ihm um den Hals und weinte lange.
Finally, Jacob said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen your face again and know you are still alive.”
Israel sagte zu Josef: Jetzt will ich gern sterben, nachdem ich dein Angesicht wieder gesehen habe. Du bist ja noch am Leben.
And Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s entire family, “I will go to Pharaoh and tell him, ‘My brothers and my father’s entire family have come to me from the land of Canaan.
Josef sagte dann zu seinen Brüdern und zum ganzen Haus seines Vaters: Ich will hinaufgehen, den Pharao benachrichtigen und ihm sagen: Meine Brüder und alle vom Haus meines Vaters, die im Land Kanaan waren, sind zu mir gekommen.
These men are shepherds, and they raise livestock. They have brought with them their flocks and herds and everything they own.’”
Die Männer sind Schafhirten, ja, Viehzüchter sind sie. Ihre Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder und alles, was ihnen gehört, haben sie mitgebracht.
Then he said, “When Pharaoh calls for you and asks you about your occupation,
Wenn euch der Pharao rufen lässt und fragt, was eure Arbeit ist,
you must tell him, ‘We, your servants, have raised livestock all our lives, as our ancestors have always done.’ When you tell him this, he will let you live here in the region of Goshen, for the Egyptians despise shepherds.”
dann sagt: Deine Knechte sind von Jugend an bis jetzt Viehzüchter gewesen, wir waren es und unsere Väter waren es auch schon. Dann werdet ihr euch in Goschen niederlassen dürfen; denn den Ägyptern sind alle Schafhirten ein Gräuel.
