New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

    LORD, remember David
    and all that he suffered.
  • The Eternal Dwelling of God in Zion

    A Song of Ascents.

    Lord, remember David
    And all his afflictions;
  • He made a solemn promise to the LORD.
    He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,a
  • How he swore to the Lord,
    And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
  • “I will not go home;
    I will not let myself rest.
  • “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,
    Or go up to the comfort of my bed;
  • I will not let my eyes sleep
    nor close my eyelids in slumber
  • I will not give sleep to my eyes
    Or slumber to my eyelids,
  • until I find a place to build a house for the LORD,
    a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”
  • Until I find a place for the Lord,
    A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
  • We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah;
    then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar.
  • Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
    We found it in the fields of [a]the woods.
  • Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD;
    let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
  • Let us go into His tabernacle;
    Let us worship at His footstool.
  • Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place,
    along with the Ark, the symbol of your power.
  • Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place,
    You and the ark of Your strength.
  • May your priests be clothed in godliness;
    may your loyal servants sing for joy.
  • Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness,
    And let Your saints shout for joy.
  • For the sake of your servant David,
    do not reject the king you have anointed.
  • For Your servant David’s sake,
    Do not turn away the face of Your [b]Anointed.
  • The LORD swore an oath to David
    with a promise he will never take back:
    “I will place one of your descendants
    on your throne.
  • The Lord has sworn in truth to David;
    He will not turn from it:
    “I will set upon your throne the [c]fruit of your body.
  • If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant
    and the laws that I teach them,
    then your royal line
    will continue forever and ever.”
  • If your sons will keep My covenant
    And My testimony which I shall teach them,
    Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.”
  • For the LORD has chosen Jerusalemb;
    he has desired it for his home.
  • For the Lord has chosen Zion;
    He has desired it for His [d]dwelling place:
  • “This is my resting place forever,” he said.
    “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
  • “This is My resting place forever;
    Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
  • I will bless this city and make it prosperous;
    I will satisfy its poor with food.
  • I will abundantly bless her [e]provision;
    I will satisfy her poor with bread.
  • I will clothe its priests with godliness;
    its faithful servants will sing for joy.
  • I will also clothe her priests with salvation,
    And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
  • Here I will increase the power of David;
    my anointed one will be a light for my people.
  • There I will make the [f]horn of David grow;
    I will prepare a lamp for My [g]Anointed.
  • I will clothe his enemies with shame,
    but he will be a glorious king.”
  • His enemies I will clothe with shame,
    But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.”
