New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD;
    it is fitting for the pure to praise him.
  • Praise to the Almighty Creator

    Exult, ye righteous, in Jehovah: praise is comely for the upright.
  • Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre;
    make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.
  • Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp; sing psalms unto him with the ten-stringed lute.
  • Sing a new song of praise to him;
    play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.
  • Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud sound.
  • For the word of the LORD holds true,
    and we can trust everything he does.
  • For the word of Jehovah is right, and all his work is in faithfulness.
  • He loves whatever is just and good;
    the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.
  • He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the loving-kindness of Jehovah.
  • The LORD merely spoke,
    and the heavens were created.
    He breathed the word,
    and all the stars were born.
  • By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
  • He assigned the sea its boundaries
    and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.
  • He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap; he layeth up the deeps in storehouses.
  • Let the whole world fear the LORD,
    and let everyone stand in awe of him.
  • Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
  • For when he spoke, the world began!
    It appeared at his command.
  • For *he* spoke, and it was [done]; *he* commanded, and it stood fast.
  • The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations
    and thwarts all their schemes.
  • Jehovah frustrateth the counsel of the nations; he maketh the thoughts of the peoples of none effect.
  • But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever;
    his intentions can never be shaken.
  • The counsel of Jehovah standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
  • What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD,
    whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
  • Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance!
  • The LORD looks down from heaven
    and sees the whole human race.
  • Jehovah looketh from the heavens; he beholdeth all the sons of men:
  • From his throne he observes
    all who live on the earth.
  • From the place of his habitation he looketh forth upon all the inhabitants of the earth;
  • He made their hearts,
    so he understands everything they do.
  • He who fashioneth the hearts of them all, who considereth all their works.
  • The best-equipped army cannot save a king,
    nor is great strength enough to save a warrior.
  • The king is not saved by the multitude of [his] forces; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
  • Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory —
    for all its strength, it cannot save you.
  • The horse is a vain thing for safety; neither doth he deliver by his great power.
  • But the LORD watches over those who fear him,
    those who rely on his unfailing love.
  • Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his loving-kindness,
  • He rescues them from death
    and keeps them alive in times of famine.
  • To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
  • We put our hope in the LORD.
    He is our help and our shield.
  • Our soul waiteth for Jehovah: he is our help and our shield.
  • In him our hearts rejoice,
    for we trust in his holy name.
  • For in him shall our heart rejoice, because we have confided in his holy name.
  • Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD,
    for our hope is in you alone.
  • Let thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, according as we have hoped in thee.
