New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • aA psalm of David, regarding the time he pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech, who sent him away.

    I will praise the LORD at all times.
    I will constantly speak his praises.
  • The Happiness of Those Who Trust in God

    A Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.

    I will bless the Lord at all times;
    His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
  • I will boast only in the LORD;
    let all who are helpless take heart.
  • My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
    The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
  • Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness;
    let us exalt his name together.
  • Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
    And let us exalt His name together.
  • I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me.
    He freed me from all my fears.
  • I sought the Lord, and He heard me,
    And delivered me from all my fears.
  • Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
    no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
  • They looked to Him and were radiant,
    And their faces were not ashamed.
  • In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened;
    he saved me from all my troubles.
  • This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him,
    And saved him out of all his troubles.
  • For the angel of the LORD is a guard;
    he surrounds and defends all who fear him.
  • The [a]angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,
    And delivers them.
  • Taste and see that the LORD is good.
    Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
  • Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
    Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
  • Fear the LORD, you his godly people,
    for those who fear him will have all they need.
  • Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
    There is no [b]want to those who fear Him.
  • Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
    but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.
  • The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
    But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
  • Come, my children, and listen to me,
    and I will teach you to fear the LORD.
  • Come, you children, listen to me;
    I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
  • Does anyone want to live a life
    that is long and prosperous?
  • Who is the man who desires life,
    And loves many days, that he may see good?
  • Then keep your tongue from speaking evil
    and your lips from telling lies!
  • Keep your tongue from evil,
    And your lips from speaking deceit.
  • Turn away from evil and do good.
    Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
  • Depart from evil and do good;
    Seek peace and pursue it.
  • The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right;
    his ears are open to their cries for help.
  • The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    And His ears are open to their cry.
  • But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil;
    he will erase their memory from the earth.
  • The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
    To [c]cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
  • The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help.
    He rescues them from all their troubles.
  • The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
    And delivers them out of all their troubles.
  • The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
    he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
  • The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
    And saves such as [d]have a contrite spirit.
  • The righteous person faces many troubles,
    but the LORD comes to the rescue each time.
  • Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
    But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
  • For the LORD protects the bones of the righteous;
    not one of them is broken!
  • He guards all his bones;
    Not one of them is broken.
  • Calamity will surely destroy the wicked,
    and those who hate the righteous will be punished.
  • Evil shall slay the wicked,
    And those who hate the righteous shall be [e]condemned.
  • But the LORD will redeem those who serve him.
    No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
  • The Lord redeems the soul of His servants,
    And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.
