A Sign of the Coming Siege
“And now, son of man, take a large clay brick and set it down in front of you. Then draw a map of the city of Jerusalem on it.

Und du, Menschenkind, nimm einen Ziegel; den lege vor dich und entwirf darauf die Stadt Jerusalem
Show the city under siege. Build a wall around it so no one can escape. Set up the enemy camp, and surround the city with siege ramps and battering rams.
und mache eine Belagerung darum und baue ein Bollwerk darum und schütte einen Wall darum und mache ein Heerlager darum und stelle Sturmböcke rings um sie her.
Then take an iron griddle and place it between you and the city. Turn toward the city and demonstrate how harsh the siege will be against Jerusalem. This will be a warning to the people of Israel.
Vor dich aber nimm eine eiserne Pfanne; die laß eine eiserne Mauer sein zwischen dir und der Stadt, und richte dein Angesicht gegen sie und belagere sie. Das sei ein Zeichen dem Hause Israel.
“Now lie on your left side and place the sins of Israel on yourself. You are to bear their sins for the number of days you lie there on your side.
Du sollst dich auch auf deine linke Seite legen und die Missetat des Hauses Israel auf dieselbe legen; soviel Tage du darauf liegst, so lange sollst du auch ihre Missetat tragen.
I am requiring you to bear Israel’s sins for 390 days — one day for each year of their sin.
Ich will dir aber die Jahre ihrer Missetat zur Anzahl der Tage machen, nämlich 390 Tage; so lange sollst du die Missetat des Hauses Israel tragen.
After that, turn over and lie on your right side for 40 days — one day for each year of Judah’s sin.
Und wenn du solches ausgerichtet hast, sollst du darnach dich auf deine rechte Seite legen und sollst tragen die Missetat des Hauses Juda 40 Tage lang; denn ich gebe dir hier auch je einen Tag für ein Jahr.
“Meanwhile, keep staring at the siege of Jerusalem. Lie there with your arm bared and prophesy her destruction.
Und richte dein Angesicht und deinen bloßen Arm wider das belagerte Jerusalem und weissage wider dasselbe.
I will tie you up with ropes so you won’t be able to turn from side to side until the days of your siege have been completed.
Und siehe, ich will dir Stricke anlegen, daß du dich nicht wenden könnest von einer Seite zur andern, bis du die Tage deiner Belagerung vollendet hast.
“Now go and get some wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and emmer wheat, and mix them together in a storage jar. Use them to make bread for yourself during the 390 days you will be lying on your side.
So nimm nun zu dir Weizen, Gerste, Bohnen, Linsen, Hirse und Spelt und tue alles in ein Faß und mache dir Brot daraus, soviel Tage du auf deiner Seite liegst, daß du 390 Tage daran zu essen hast,
also daß deine Speise, die du täglich essen sollst, sei 20 Lot nach dem Gewicht. Solches sollst du von einer Zeit zur andern essen.
Das Wasser sollst du auch nach dem Maß trinken, nämlich das sechste Teil vom Hin, und sollst solches auch von einer Zeit zur andern trinken.
Prepare and eat this food as you would barley cakes. While all the people are watching, bake it over a fire using dried human dung as fuel and then eat the bread.”
Gerstenkuchen sollst du essen, die du vor ihren Augen auf Menschenmist backen sollst.
Then the LORD said, “This is how Israel will eat defiled bread in the Gentile lands to which I will banish them!”
Und der HERR sprach: Also müssen die Kinder Israel ihr unreines Brot essen unter den Heiden, dahin ich sie verstoßen werde.
Then I said, “O Sovereign LORD, must I be defiled by using human dung? For I have never been defiled before. From the time I was a child until now I have never eaten any animal that died of sickness or was killed by other animals. I have never eaten any meat forbidden by the law.”
Ich aber sprach: Ach HERR HERR! siehe, meine Seele ist noch nie unrein geworden; denn ich habe von meiner Jugend auf bis auf diese Zeit kein Aas noch Zerrissenes gegessen, und ist nie unreines Fleisch in meinen Mund gekommen.
“All right,” the LORD said. “You may bake your bread with cow dung instead of human dung.”
Er aber sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich will dir Kuhmist für Menschenmist zulassen, darauf du dein Brot machen sollst.
Then he told me, “Son of man, I will make food very scarce in Jerusalem. It will be weighed out with great care and eaten fearfully. The water will be rationed out drop by drop, and the people will drink it with dismay.
Und sprach zu mir: Du Menschenkind, siehe, ich will den Vorrat des Brots zu Jerusalem wegnehmen, daß sie das Brot essen müssen nach dem Gewicht und mit Kummer, und das Wasser nach dem Maß mit Kummer trinken,
