Damals sagte der HERR zu mir: Hau zwei Steintafeln zurecht, so wie die ersten, und steig zu mir auf den Berg! Fertige auch eine hölzerne Lade an!
and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the Ark.’
Ich will auf die Tafeln die gleichen Worte schreiben wie auf die ersten, die du zerschmettert hast; diese Tafeln sollst du dann in die Lade legen.
“So I made an Ark of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first two. Then I went up the mountain with the tablets in my hand.
Ich fertigte eine Lade aus Akazienholz an, hieb zwei Steintafeln zurecht, so wie die ersten, und stieg auf den Berg. Ich hielt die beiden Tafeln in der Hand.
Wie bei der ersten Inschrift schrieb der HERR auf die Tafeln die Zehn Worte, die er am Tag der Versammlung auf dem Berg mitten aus dem Feuer zu euch gesprochen hatte, und der HERR übergab sie mir.
Then I turned and came down the mountain and placed the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant, which I had made, just as the LORD commanded me. And the tablets are still there in the Ark.”
Ich wandte mich um, stieg den Berg hinunter und legte die Tafeln in die Lade, die ich angefertigt hatte. Dort blieben sie, wie der HERR es mir befohlen hatte.
Die Israeliten zogen von Beerot-Bene-Jaakan nach Moser. Dort starb Aaron, dort wurde er auch begraben. Sein Sohn Eleasar wurde an seiner Stelle Priester.
Then they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from there to Jotbathah, a land with many brooks and streams.
Von dort zogen sie nach Hor-Gidgad, von Hor-Gidgad nach Jotbata, einer Gegend, wo es Bäche gab, die immer Wasser führten.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, and to stand before the LORD as his ministers, and to pronounce blessings in his name. These are their duties to this day.
Damals sonderte der HERR den Stamm Levi aus, damit er die Lade des Bundes des HERRN trage, vor dem HERRN stehe, vor ihm Dienst tue und in seinem Namen den Segen spreche. So geschieht es noch heute.
That is why the Levites have no share of property or possession of land among the other Israelite tribes. The LORD himself is their special possession, as the LORD your God told them.)
Deshalb erhielt Levi nicht wie seine Brüder Landanteil und Erbbesitz. Der HERR ist sein Erbbesitz, wie es der HERR, dein Gott, ihm zugesagt hat.
“As for me, I stayed on the mountain in the LORD’s presence for forty days and nights, as I had done the first time. And once again the LORD listened to my pleas and agreed not to destroy you.
Was aber mich betrifft: Als ich wie beim ersten Mal vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang auf dem Berg geblieben war und der HERR mich auch diesmal erhört hatte, weil er sich weigerte, dich dem Verderben preiszugeben,
Then the LORD said to me, ‘Get up and resume the journey, and lead the people to the land I swore to give to their ancestors, so they may take possession of it.’
da sprach der HERR zu mir: Steh auf und tritt zum Aufbruch an die Spitze des Volkes! Sie sollen in das Land hineinziehen und es in Besitz nehmen, das Land, von dem du weißt: Ich habe ihren Vätern geschworen, es ihnen zu geben.
A Call to Love and Obedience
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.
Und nun, Israel, was fordert der HERR, dein Gott, von dir außer dem einen: dass du den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchtest, indem du auf allen seinen Wegen gehst, ihn liebst und dem HERRN, deinem Gott, mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele dienst;
And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.
dass du ihn fürchtest, indem du die Gebote des HERRN und seine Satzungen bewahrst, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte. Dann wird es dir gut gehen.
“Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God.
Sieh, dem HERRN, deinem Gott, gehören der Himmel, der Himmel über den Himmeln, die Erde und alles, was auf ihr lebt.
Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today.
Doch nur deine Väter hat der HERR ins Herz geschlossen, nur sie hat er geliebt. Und euch, ihre Nachkommen, hat er später unter allen Völkern ausgewählt, wie es sich heute zeigt.
Ihr sollt die Vorhaut eures Herzens beschneiden und nicht länger halsstarrig sein.
“For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.
Denn der HERR, euer Gott, ist der Gott über den Göttern und der Herr über den Herren. Er ist der große Gott, der Held und der Furchterregende. Er lässt kein Ansehen gelten und nimmt keine Bestechung an.
He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.
Er verschafft Waisen und Witwen ihr Recht. Er liebt die Fremden und gibt ihnen Nahrung und Kleidung —
So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.
auch ihr sollt die Fremden lieben, denn ihr seid Fremde in Ägypten gewesen.
You must fear the LORD your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone.
Du sollst den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchten. Ihm sollst du dienen, an ihm sollst du dich festhalten, bei seinem Namen sollst du schwören.
He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes.
Er ist dein Lobgesang, er ist dein Gott. Für dich hat er all das Große und Furchterregende getan, das du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast.
When your ancestors went down into Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky!
Als deine Vorfahren nach Ägypten zogen, waren sie nur siebzig an der Zahl; jetzt aber hat der HERR, dein Gott, dich so zahlreich gemacht wie die Sterne am Himmel.
