But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.
Ich fürchte aber, wie die Schlange einst durch ihre Falschheit Eva täuschte, könntet auch ihr in euren Gedanken von der aufrichtigen und reinen Hingabe an Christus abkommen.
You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.
Ihr nehmt es ja offenbar hin, wenn irgendeiner daherkommt und einen anderen Jesus verkündet, als wir verkündet haben, wenn ihr einen anderen Geist empfangt, als ihr empfangen habt, oder ein anderes Evangelium, als ihr angenommen habt.
But I don’t consider myself inferior in any way to these “super apostles” who teach such things.
Ich denke doch, ich stehe den Überaposteln keineswegs nach.
I may be unskilled as a speaker, but I’m not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every possible way.
Im Reden mag ich ein Stümper sein, aber nicht in der Erkenntnis; wir haben es euch in jeder Weise gezeigt.
Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you without expecting anything in return?
Oder habe ich einen Fehler gemacht, als ich, um euch zu erhöhen, mich selbst erniedrigte und euch das Evangelium Gottes verkündete, ohne etwas dafür zu nehmen?
I “robbed” other churches by accepting their contributions so I could serve you at no cost.
Andere Gemeinden habe ich ausgeplündert und Geld von ihnen genommen, um euch dienen zu können.
And when I was with you and didn’t have enough to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be.
Aber als ich zu euch kam und in Schwierigkeiten geriet, bin ich niemandem zur Last gefallen; was ich zu wenig hatte, ergänzten die Brüder, die aus Mazedonien kamen. Ich habe also darauf Wert gelegt, euch in keiner Weise zur Last zu fallen, und werde auch weiterhin darauf Wert legen.
So gewiss die Wahrheit Christi in mir ist: Diesen Ruhm wird mir im Gebiet von Achaia niemand nehmen.
Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows that I do.
Warum? Liebe ich euch etwa nicht? Gott weiß es.
But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours.
Was ich aber tue, werde ich auch in Zukunft tun: Ich werde denen die Gelegenheit nehmen, die nur die Gelegenheit suchen, sich Achtung zu verschaffen, um so dazustehen wie wir.
These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.
Denn diese Leute sind Lügenapostel, unehrliche Arbeiter; sie tarnen sich freilich als Apostel Christi.
But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Kein Wunder, denn auch der Satan tarnt sich als Engel des Lichts.
So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.
Es ist also nicht erstaunlich, wenn sich auch seine Diener als Diener der Gerechtigkeit tarnen. Ihr Ende wird ihren Taten entsprechen.
Paul’s Many Trials
Again I say, don’t think that I am a fool to talk like this. But even if you do, listen to me, as you would to a foolish person, while I also boast a little.
Noch einmal sage ich: Keiner soll mich für einen Narren halten. Tut ihr es aber doch, dann lasst mich auch als Narren gewähren, damit auch ich ein wenig prahlen kann!
Such boasting is not from the Lord, but I am acting like a fool.
Was ich hier sage, sage ich nicht im Sinn des Herrn, sondern, wenn es schon um das Prahlen geht, wie ein Narr.
And since others boast about their human achievements, I will, too.
Da viele Menschen im Sinn dieser Welt prahlen, will auch ich einmal prahlen.
After all, you think you are so wise, but you enjoy putting up with fools!
Ihr lasst euch die Narren ja gern gefallen, ihr klugen Leute.
You put up with it when someone enslaves you, takes everything you have, takes advantage of you, takes control of everything, and slaps you in the face.
Denn ihr nehmt es hin, wenn euch jemand versklavt, wenn euch jemand ausbeutet, wenn euch jemand in seine Gewalt bringt, wenn jemand anmaßend auftritt, wenn euch jemand ins Gesicht schlägt.
I’m ashamed to say that we’ve been too “weak” to do that!
But whatever they dare to boast about — I’m talking like a fool again — I dare to boast about it, too.

Zu meiner Schande muss ich gestehen: Dazu bin ich allerdings zu schwach gewesen. HERKUNFT UND DIENST: 11,21B–33 Wozu aber jemand den Mut aufbringt — ich rede jetzt als Narr — , dazu bringe auch ich ihn auf.
Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.
Sie sind Hebräer — ich auch. Sie sind Israeliten — ich auch. Sie sind Nachkommen Abrahams — ich auch.
Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again.
Sie sind Diener Christi — jetzt rede ich ganz unvernünftig — , ich noch mehr: Ich ertrug mehr Mühsal, war häufiger im Gefängnis, wurde mehr geschlagen, war oft in Todesgefahr.
Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes.
Fünfmal erhielt ich von Juden die vierzig Hiebe weniger einen;
Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea.
dreimal wurde ich ausgepeitscht, einmal gesteinigt, dreimal erlitt ich Schiffbruch, eine Nacht und einen Tag trieb ich auf hoher See.
I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not.c
Ich war oft auf Reisen, gefährdet durch Flüsse, gefährdet durch Räuber, gefährdet durch das eigene Volk, gefährdet durch Heiden, gefährdet in der Stadt, gefährdet in der Wüste, gefährdet auf dem Meer, gefährdet durch falsche Brüder.
I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.
Ich erduldete Mühsal und Plage, viele durchwachte Nächte, Hunger und Durst, häufiges Fasten, Kälte und Nacktheit.
Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches.
Um von allem andern zu schweigen, dem täglichen Andrang zu mir und der Sorge für alle Gemeinden:
Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger?
Wer ist schwach und ich bin nicht schwach? Wer kommt zu Fall und ich werde nicht von brennender Sorge verzehrt?
If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am.
Wenn schon geprahlt sein muss, will ich mit meiner Schwachheit prahlen.
God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is worthy of eternal praise, knows I am not lying.
Gott, der Vater Jesu, des Herrn, er, der gepriesen ist in Ewigkeit, weiß, dass ich nicht lüge.
