Made Alive with Christ

Aber wie sah euer Leben früher aus? Ihr wart Gott ungehorsam und wolltet von ihm nichts wissen. In seinen Augen wart ihr tot.
Ihr habt gelebt, wie es in dieser Welt üblich ist, und wart dem Satan verfallen, der seine Macht ausübt zwischen Himmel und Erde. Sein böser Geist beherrscht auch heute noch das Leben aller Menschen, die Gott nicht gehorchen.
All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Zu ihnen haben wir früher auch gehört, damals, als wir eigensüchtig unser Leben selbst bestimmen wollten. Wir haben den Leidenschaften und Verlockungen unserer alten Natur nachgegeben, und wie alle anderen Menschen waren wir dem Zorn Gottes ausgeliefert.
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,
Aber Gottes Barmherzigkeit ist groß. Wegen unserer Sünden waren wir in Gottes Augen tot. Doch er hat uns so sehr geliebt, dass er uns mit Christus neues Leben schenkte. Denkt immer daran: Diese Rettung verdankt ihr allein der Gnade Gottes.
For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
Er hat uns mit Christus vom Tod auferweckt, und durch die Verbindung mit Christus haben wir schon jetzt unseren Platz in der himmlischen Welt erhalten.
So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
So will Gott in seiner Liebe, die er uns in Jesus Christus erwiesen hat, für alle Zeiten die überwältigende Größe seiner Gnade zeigen.
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Denn nur durch seine unverdiente Güte seid ihr vom Tod gerettet worden. Das ist geschehen, weil ihr an Jesus Christus glaubt. Es ist ein Geschenk Gottes und nicht euer eigenes Werk.
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Durch eigene Leistungen kann ein Mensch nichts dazu beitragen. Deshalb kann sich niemand etwas auf seine guten Taten einbilden.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Was wir jetzt sind, ist allein Gottes Werk. Er hat uns durch Jesus Christus neu geschaffen, um Gutes zu tun. Damit erfüllen wir nun, was Gott schon im Voraus für uns vorbereitet hat.
Oneness and Peace in Christ
Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts.
Vergesst nie, dass ihr früher verächtlich »Unbeschnittene« genannt wurdet, weil ihr zu den nichtjüdischen Völkern gehört. Die Juden wollten sich als »Beschnittene« von euch unterscheiden, obwohl ihre Beschneidung nur von Menschen durchgeführt wird.
In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope.
Ihr habt damals ohne Christus gelebt und wart ausgeschlossen von Israel, dem Volk Gottes. Darum galten für euch die Zusagen nicht, die Gott seinem Volk gab, als er seine Bündnisse mit ihnen schloss. Ohne jede Hoffnung und ohne Gott habt ihr in dieser Welt gelebt.
But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.
Doch das ist vorbei! Jetzt gehört ihr zu Jesus Christus, der am Kreuz sein Blut für euch vergossen hat. Ihr seid Gott jetzt nahe, obwohl ihr vorher so weit von ihm entfernt lebtet.
For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.
Durch Christus haben wir Frieden. Er hat Juden und Nichtjuden in seiner Gemeinde vereint, die Mauer zwischen ihnen niedergerissen und ihre Feindschaft beendet. Durch sein Sterben
He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.
hat er das jüdische Gesetz mit seinen zahlreichen Geboten und Forderungen außer Kraft gesetzt. Durch Christus leben wir nicht länger voneinander getrennt, der eine als Jude, der andere als Nichtjude. Als Christen sind wir eins. So hat er zwischen uns Frieden gestiftet.
Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.
Christus ist für alle Menschen am Kreuz gestorben, damit wir alle Frieden mit Gott haben. In seinem neuen Leib, der Gemeinde von Christus, können wir nun als Versöhnte miteinander leben.
He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near.
Christus ist gekommen und hat seine Friedensbotschaft allen gebracht: euch, die ihr fern von Gott lebtet, und allen, die nahe bei ihm waren.
Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.
Durch Christus dürfen wir jetzt alle, Juden wie Nichtjuden, vereint in einem Geist zu Gott, dem Vater, kommen.
A Temple for the Lord
So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.
So seid ihr nicht länger Fremde und Heimatlose; ihr gehört jetzt als Bürger zum Volk Gottes, ja sogar zu seiner Familie.
Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.
Als Gemeinde von Jesus Christus steht ihr auf dem Fundament der Apostel und Propheten. Doch der Grundstein, der dieses Gebäude trägt und zusammenhält, ist Jesus Christus selbst.
We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
Durch ihn sind die Bauteile untereinander fest verbunden und wachsen zu einem Tempel des Herrn heran.
