    The LORD Speaks to Samuel

    Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the LORD by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the LORD were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon.

    Der junge Samuel versah den Dienst des HERRN unter der Aufsicht Elis. In jenen Tagen waren Worte des HERRN selten; Visionen waren nicht häufig.

    One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed.

    Eines Tages geschah es: Eli schlief auf seinem Platz; seine Augen waren schwach geworden und er konnte nicht mehr sehen.

    The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernaclea near the Ark of God.

    Die Lampe Gottes war noch nicht erloschen und Samuel schlief im Tempel des HERRN, wo die Lade Gottes stand.

    Suddenly the LORD called out, “Samuel!”
    “Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?”

    Da rief der HERR den Samuel und Samuel antwortete: Hier bin ich.

    He got up and ran to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?”
    “I didn’t call you,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.” So he did.

    Dann lief er zu Eli und sagte: Hier bin ich, du hast mich gerufen. Eli erwiderte: Ich habe dich nicht gerufen. Geh wieder schlafen! Da ging er und legte sich wieder schlafen.

    Then the LORD called out again, “Samuel!”
    Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?”
    “I didn’t call you, my son,” Eli said. “Go back to bed.”

    Der HERR rief noch einmal: Samuel! Samuel stand auf und ging zu Eli und sagte: Hier bin ich, du hast mich gerufen. Eli erwiderte: Ich habe dich nicht gerufen, mein Sohn. Geh wieder schlafen!

    Samuel did not yet know the LORD because he had never had a message from the LORD before.

    Samuel kannte den HERRN noch nicht und das Wort des HERRN war ihm noch nicht offenbart worden.

    So the LORD called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?”
    Then Eli realized it was the LORD who was calling the boy.

    Da rief der HERR den Samuel wieder, zum dritten Mal. Er stand auf und ging zu Eli und sagte: Hier bin ich, du hast mich gerufen. Da merkte Eli, dass der HERR den Knaben gerufen hatte.

    So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed.

    Eli sagte zu Samuel: Geh, leg dich schlafen! Wenn er dich ruft, dann antworte: Rede, HERR; denn dein Diener hört. Samuel ging und legte sich an seinem Platz nieder.

    And the LORD came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!”
    And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

    Da kam der HERR, trat heran und rief wie die vorigen Male: Samuel, Samuel! Und Samuel antwortete: Rede, denn dein Diener hört.

    Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel.

    Der HERR sagte zu Samuel: Fürwahr, ich werde in Israel etwas tun, sodass jedem, der davon hört, beide Ohren gellen.

    I am going to carry out all my threats against Eli and his family, from beginning to end.
  • 12
    An jenem Tag werde ich an Eli vom Anfang bis zum Ende alles verwirklichen, was ich seinem Haus angedroht habe.

    I have warned him that judgment is coming upon his family forever, because his sons are blaspheming Godb and he hasn’t disciplined them.

    Ich habe ihm angekündigt, dass ich über sein Haus für immer das Urteil gesprochen habe wegen seiner Schuld; denn er wusste, wie seine Söhne Gott lästern, und gebot ihnen nicht Einhalt.

    So I have vowed that the sins of Eli and his sons will never be forgiven by sacrifices or offerings.”

    Darum habe ich dem Haus Eli geschworen: Für die Schuld des Hauses Eli kann durch Opfer und durch Gaben in Ewigkeit keine Sühne erwirkt werden.

    Samuel Speaks for the LORD

    Samuel stayed in bed until morning, then got up and opened the doors of the Tabernaclec as usual. He was afraid to tell Eli what the LORD had said to him.

    Samuel blieb bis zum Morgen liegen, dann öffnete er die Türen zum Haus des HERRN. Er fürchtete sich aber, Eli von der Vision zu berichten.

    But Eli called out to him, “Samuel, my son.”
    “Here I am,” Samuel replied.
  • 16
    Da rief Eli Samuel und sagte: Samuel, mein Sohn! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich.

    “What did the LORD say to you? Tell me everything. And may God strike you and even kill you if you hide anything from me!”

    Eli fragte: Was war es, das er zu dir gesagt hat? Verheimliche mir nichts! Gott möge dir dies und das antun, wenn du mir auch nur eines von all den Worten verheimlichst, die er zu dir gesprochen hat.

    So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back. “It is the LORD’s will,” Eli replied. “Let him do what he thinks best.”

    Da teilte ihm Samuel alle Worte mit und verheimlichte ihm nichts. Darauf sagte Eli: Es ist der HERR. Er tue, was ihm gefällt.

    As Samuel grew up, the LORD was with him, and everything Samuel said proved to be reliable.

    Samuel wuchs heran und der HERR war mit ihm und ließ keines von all seinen Worten zu Boden fallen.

    And all Israel, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.

    Ganz Israel von Dan bis Beerscheba erkannte, dass Samuel als Prophet des HERRN beglaubigt war.

    The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh and gave messages to Samuel there at the Tabernacle.

    Auch weiterhin erschien der HERR in Schilo: Der HERR offenbarte sich Samuel in Schilo durch sein Wort.
