    Пускай хлеб свой по воде,
    ведь после многих дней ты вновь найдешь его.17

    Cast Your Bread upon the Waters

    Cast thy bread upon the waters; for thou shalt find it after many days.

    Раздели то, что ты имеешь, на семь или даже восемь частей,
    потому что не знаешь, какая беда может случиться в стране.18

    Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

    Если тучи полны воды,
    то они прольют дождь на землю.
    Если дерево упадет на юг или на север,
    то куда оно упадет, там и останется.

    If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

    Кто наблюдает за ветром, никогда не посеет,
    и кто смотрит на облака, никогда не пожнет.

    He that observeth the wind will not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds will not reap.

    Как не знаешь путей ветра
    и того, как ребенок формируется в утробе матери,
    так же не можешь постигнуть дел Бога,
    Создателя всего.

    As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, how the bones [grow] in the womb of her that is with child, even so thou knowest not the work of God who maketh all.

    Сей семена утром,
    да и вечером не давай отдыха своим рукам,
    потому что ты не знаешь,
    то или другое будет удачнее,
    или и то, и другое будет одинаково хорошо.

    In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, whether this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

    Enjoy Your Years

    Now the light is sweet, and pleasant is it to the eyes to see the sun;

    Сколько бы лет ни жил человек,
    пусть всегда веселится.
    Но пусть помнит о днях тьмы,
    ведь их будет много.
    Все, что будет — суета.

    but if a man live many years, [and] rejoice in them all, yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many: all that cometh is vanity.

    Веселись, юноша, пока молодой,
    пусть твое сердце радуется в дни юности твоей.
    Следуй влечению сердца твоего
    и желанию глаз твоих,
    но знай, что за все это
    Бог приведет тебя на суд.

    Rejoice, young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know that for all these [things] God will bring thee into judgment.

    Итак, гони беспокойство из сердца твоего
    и удаляй страдание от тела твоего,
    потому что детство и юность — суета.

    Then remove discontent from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh; for childhood and youth are vanity.
