Господь отвечал Иову из бури и сказал:
God Challenges Job
And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
кто сей, омрачающий Провидение словами без смысла?
Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Препояшь ныне чресла твои, как муж: Я буду спрашивать тебя, и ты объясняй Мне:
Gird up now thy loins like a man; and I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
где был ты, когда Я полагал основания земли? Скажи, если знаешь.
Where wast thou when I founded the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.
Кто положил меру ей, если знаешь? или кто протягивал по ней вервь?
Who set the measures thereof -- if thou knowest? or who stretched a line upon it?
На чем утверждены основания её, или кто положил краеугольный камень её,
Whereupon were the foundations thereof sunken? or who laid its corner-stone,
при общем ликовании утренних звёзд, когда все сыны Божии восклицали от радости?
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Кто затворил море воротами, когда оно исторглось, вышло как бы из чрева,
And who shut up the sea with doors, when it burst forth, issuing out of the womb?
когда Я облака сделал одеждою его и мглу пеленами его,
When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it;
и утвердил ему Моё определение, и поставил запоры и ворота,
When I cut out for it my boundary, and set bars and doors,
и сказал: «доселе дойдёшь и не перейдёшь, и здесь предел надменным волнам твоим»?
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come and no further, and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
Давал ли ты когда в жизни своей приказания утру и указывал ли заре место её,
Hast thou since thy days commanded the morning? hast thou caused the dawn to know its place,
чтобы она охватила края земли и стряхнула с неё нечестивых,
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked might be shaken out of it?
чтобы земля изменилась, как глина под печатью, и стала, как разноцветная одежда,
It is changed like the signet-clay; and [all things] stand forth as in a garment:
и чтобы отнялся у нечестивых свет их и дерзкая рука их сокрушилась?
And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the uplifted arm is broken.
Нисходил ли ты во глубину моря и входил ли в исследование бездны?
Hast thou entered as far as the springs of the sea? and hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?
Отворялись ли для тебя врата смерти, и видел ли ты врата тени смертной?
Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? and hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?
Обозрел ли ты широту земли? Объясни, если знаешь всё это.
Hath thine understanding compassed the breadths of the earth? Declare if thou knowest it all.
Где путь к жилищу света, и где место тьмы?
Where is the way to where light dwelleth? and the darkness, where is its place,
Ты, конечно, доходил до границ её и знаешь стези к дому её.
That thou shouldest take it to its bound, and that thou shouldest know the paths to its house?
Ты знаешь это, потому что ты был уже тогда рождён, и число дней твоих очень велико.
Thou knowest, for thou wast then born, and the number of thy days is great!
Входил ли ты в хранилища снега и видел ли сокровищницы града,
Hast thou entered into the storehouses of the snow, and hast thou seen the treasuries of the hail,
которые берегу Я на время смутное, на день битвы и войны?
Which I have reserved for the time of distress, for the day of battle and war?
По какому пути разливается свет и разносится восточный ветер по земле?
By what way is the light parted, [and] the east wind scattered upon the earth?
Кто проводит протоки для излияния воды и путь для громоносной молнии,
Who hath divided a channel for the rain-flood, and a way for the thunder's flash;
чтобы шёл дождь на землю безлюдную, на пустыню, где нет человека,
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no one is; on the wilderness wherein there is not a man;
чтобы насыщать пустыню и степь и возбуждать травные зародыши к возрастанию?
To satisfy the desolate and waste [ground], and to cause the sprout of the grass to spring forth?
Есть ли у дождя отец? или кто рождает капли росы?
Hath the rain a father? or who begetteth the drops of dew?
Из чьего чрева выходит лёд, и иней небесный, — кто рождает его?
Out of whose womb cometh the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who bringeth it forth?
Воды, как камень, крепнут, и поверхность бездны замерзает.
When the waters lie hidden as in stone, and the face of the deep holdeth fast together.
Можешь ли ты связать узел Хима и разрешить узы Кесиль?
Canst thou fasten the bands of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
Можешь ли выводить созвездия в своё время и вести Ас с её детьми?
Dost thou bring forth the constellations each in its season? or dost thou guide the Bear with her sons?
Знаешь ли ты уставы неба, можешь ли установить господство его на земле?
Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? dost thou determine their rule over the earth?
Можешь ли возвысить голос твой к облакам, чтобы вода в обилии покрыла тебя?
Dost thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that floods of waters may cover thee?
Можешь ли посылать молнии, и пойдут ли они и скажут ли тебе: «вот мы»?
Dost thou send forth lightnings that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Кто вложил мудрость в сердце, или кто дал смысл разуму?
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the mind?
Кто может расчислить облака своею мудростью и удержать сосуды неба,
Who numbereth the clouds with wisdom? or who poureth out the bottles of the heavens,
когда пыль обращается в грязь и глыбы слипаются?
When the dust runneth as into a molten mass, and the clods cleave fast together?
Ты ли ловишь добычу львице и насыщаешь молодых львов,
Dost thou hunt the prey for the lioness, and dost thou satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
когда они лежат в берлогах или покоятся под тенью в засаде?
When they crouch in [their] dens, [and] abide in the thicket to lie in wait?
