On the third day a man arrived from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him honor.
Давид спросил его: "Откуда ты пришёл?"Человек ответил: "Я убежал из израильского лагеря".
“Where have you come from?” David asked him.
He answered, “I have escaped from the Israelite camp.”
He answered, “I have escaped from the Israelite camp.”
Давид спросил: "Что там произошло? Расскажи мне". И человек ответил: "Народ наш бежал с поля сражения. Многие убиты, и Саул и сын его Ионафан тоже мертвы".
“What happened?” David asked. “Tell me.”
“The men fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.”

Then David said to the young man who brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”

“I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” the young man said, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and their drivers in hot pursuit.

When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I said, ‘What can I do?’
Саул спросил: "Кто ты?"И я сказал ему, что я — амаликитянин.
“He asked me, ‘Who are you?’
“ ‘An Amalekite,’ I answered.

Тогда Саул сказал мне: "Подойди и убей меня! Я в смертельных муках, но всё ещё жив".
“Then he said to me, ‘Stand here by me and kill me! I’m in the throes of death, but I’m still alive.’
И я подошёл и убил его, ибо знал, что он тяжело ранен и не сможет выжить после своего падения. Затем я взял венец с его головы и браслет и принёс их сюда, мой господин".
“So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.”
Тогда Давид и все люди, бывшие с ним, разодрали на себе одежды, чтобы выразить свою печаль.
Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them.

They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the Lord and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
Затем Давид сказал юноше, который рассказал ему о смерти Саула:"Откуда ты?"Юноша ответил: "Я — сын пришельца, амаликитянин".
David said to the young man who brought him the report, “Where are you from?”
“I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite,” he answered.

Тогда Давид сказал ему:"Как не побоялся ты поднять руку, чтобы убить помазанника Господа?"
David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”
Затем Давид призвал одного из молодых слуг и велел ему убить амаликитянина,
Then David called one of his men and said, “Go, strike him down!” So he struck him down, and he died.
и тот убил его. И сказал Давид амаликитянину:"Ты сам виноват в своей смерти. Ты сказал, что убил помазанника Господа, так что твои собственные слова доказывают твою вину".
For David had said to him, “Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed.’ ”

and he ordered that the people of Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is written in the Book of Jashar):
"Краса твоя, Израиль, повержена на высотах твоих! О, как пали эти герои!

О, горы Гелвуйские! Пусть не падает на вас ни роса, ни дождь. И не будет полей, приносящих урожай. Ибо щит героев заржавел там, Не был помазан елеем щит Саула.
Из крови раненых и тука сильных Не возвращался назад лук Ионафана. Пустым не возвращался и Саула меч.

Саул и Ионафан — в жизни своей они друг друга любили и в согласии были. И даже смерть не разлучила их! Быстрее орлов, сильнее львов они были.
