"Иов, справедлив ли ты, говоря: "Я более прав, чем Господь"?
Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?
Ты спрашиваешь Господа, Иов: "Какая польза мне в том, что я не грешу?"
For thou hast asked of what profit it is unto thee: what do I gain more than if I had sinned?
Я хотел бы ответить тебе и твоим друзьям.
I will reply to thee in words, and to thy companions with thee.
Взгляни на небо и на облака, которые выше тебя.
Look unto the heavens and see; and survey the skies: they are higher than thou.
Что делаешь ты Господу, Иов, когда грешишь? И если многочисленны твои грехи, что причиняешь ты Ему?
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
И ежели ты праведен, Иов, что ты Ему даёшь? Что получает Он из рук твоих?
If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?
Грехи твои и праведность твоя лишь для других людей, тебе подобных.
Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.
От бремени бессчётных угнетений страдают люди, и стонут от множества сильных рук.
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry; they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty:
Но ни один не говорит: "Где мой Господь, где мой Творец, дарующий песни в ночи,
But none saith, Where is +God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night,
который сделал нас мудрее земных зверей и птиц небесных?"
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowl of the heavens?
Господь не отвечает воплям людей, поскольку слишком гордые они.
There they cry, and he answereth not, because of the pride of evil men.
Господь и вправду просьб пустых не слышит, внимания на них не обращает.
Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
Поэтому, Иов, Господь не будет слушать тебя, когда ты говоришь, что он тебе невидим. Ты ждёшь с Ним встречи, чтобы доказать свою невиновность.
Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.
Ты думаешь, Господь обходит грешных наказаньем, внимания на грех не обращая.
But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, doth not [Job] know [his] great arrogancy?
