Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

Тебе придётся трудиться, сними красивые юбки и за жернов берись, мели зерно для хлеба своего. Подбери свои юбки, пусть видят мужчины ноги твои, пересеки реки, расстанься со своей страной.
Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
Мужчины увидят твою наготу и овладеют тобою. Я заставлю тебя заплатить за всё твоё зло. И не будет мужчины, который тебе поможет.
Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

Я в гневе был на Мой народ, Я низвёл принадлежащий Мне народ. Я отдал их в руки твои, но ты не проявила милосердия, тяжёлое ярмо взвалив даже на старцев!
I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
Ты говорила: "Я жить буду вечно, всегда царицей буду". Не смогла увидеть ты, что сделала плохого тем людям, и себя не утруждала раздумием о будущем.
And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
Поэтому, беспечная, послушай. Ты говоришь: "Единственная я, и подобной мне нет, вдовою я никогда не буду, и дети будут у меня всегда".
Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
С тобой случится и одно несчастье, и другое: детей своих утратишь ты, и мужа ты тогда же потеряешь. Всё будет так, и волшебство твоё и ухищренья спасти тебя не смогут.
But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
Плохое ты творишь, но всё равно считаешь в безопасности себя и думаешь: "Никто не видит зла моего". Ты думаешь, что знания и мудрость тебя спасут, и говоришь себе: "Неповторима я, нет никого на свете меня важнее".
For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
Но придут к тебе беды. Ты не узнаешь, когда это случится, но они неотвратимы. Ты не сможешь их остановить, ты так быстро погибнешь, что не поймёшь причины!
Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
Ты всю жизнь свою изучала волшебство и чародейство. Может быть, они ныне помогут тебе, может быть, спасут.
Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
Не устала ли ты от своих бесчисленных советчиков? Отошли их прочь, своих звездочётов. Они могут тебе сказать, когда придёт новолунье, так может быть, они смогут сказать, когда твои беды к тебе подступят?
Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Но они и себя не спасут, все сгорят они, словно солома. Они так быстро истлеют, что от них ни углей не останется, чтобы хлеба испечь, ни огня, у которого можно собраться.
Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
Так случится со всеми, с кем ты вместе трудилась, с кем вела ты свои дела, все покинут тебя, и каждый своей дорогой пойдёт. Не останется никого, кто мог бы тебя спасти".
Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
