На второй год царствования царю Навуходоносору стали сниться сны, которые так его мучили, что он не мог спать.

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream

And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

Царь созвал всех своих волшебников, чародеев, мудрецов и халдеев. Царь хотел, чтобы они растолковали его сновидения. Они пришли и предстали перед царём.

And the king commanded to call the scribes, and the magicians, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to shew the king his dreams; and they came and stood before the king.

И сказал им царь: "Я видел сон, который встревожил меня, и я хочу знать, что он означает".

And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

4

И ответили царю халдеи астрологи по-арамейски: "Царь, живи во веки! Мы — рабы твои. Расскажи нам свой сон, и мы объясним тебе его значение".

And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, O king, live for ever! tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

Царь Навуходоносор сказал этим людям: "Нет! Вы должны сами рассказать мне сон и растолковать его. Если же так не сделаете, я дам приказ изрубить вас в куски, а дома ваши разрушить и превратить в кучи золы и пыли.

The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The command is gone forth from me: If ye do not make known unto me the dream, and its interpretation, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

Но если вы расскажете мой сон и объясните его значение, я одарю вас подарками, наградами и большими почестями; расскажите мне мой сон и его значение".

But if ye shew the dream and its interpretation, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour; therefore shew me the dream and its interpretation.

И снова отвечали мудрецы царю: "Расскажи нам, господин, свой сон, а мы скажем тебе, что он означает".

They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

8

Тогда царь Навуходоносор ответил им: "Я знаю, что вы стараетесь выиграть время, так как понимаете, что я сдержу своё слово.

The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the word is gone forth from me;

9

Вы знаете, что будете наказаны, если не расскажете мне мой сон. Вы все сговорились обмануть меня и надеетесь выиграть время, думая, что я забуду то, что хочу сделать. А теперь расскажите мне сон. Если вы сможете рассказать мой сон, тогда я буду знать, что вы можете объяснить мне и его значение!"

but if ye do not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me its interpretation.

Халдеи астрологи отвечали царю так: "Нет на земле человека, который бы мог сделать то, что ты хочешь! Ни один царь никогда не требовал от мудрецов, чародеев или халдеев сделать что-либо подобное. Ни один самый великий и могущественный царь не просил своих мудрецов об этом.

The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter; therefore there is no king, however great and powerful, that hath asked such a thing of any scribe, or magician, or Chaldean.

11

Царь требует то, что невозможно сделать. Только одни боги могли бы рассказать царю его сон и объяснить его значение. Но боги не живут среди людей".

For the thing that the king demandeth is extraordinary, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12

Когда царь услышал это, он рассвирепел и отдал приказ убить всех мудрецов Вавилона.

For this cause the king was irritated and very wroth, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13

Повеление царя Навуходоносора было объявлено. Всем мудрецам предстояло умереть, и люди царя искали Даниила и его друзей, чтобы убить и их.

And the decree went forth that the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to slay them.

14

Начальник царских палачей Ариох уже собрался убить мудрецов Вавилона, когда к нему обратился Даниил. Он говорил с Ариохом вежливо и мудро.

The Dream Revealed to Daniel

Then Daniel answered with counsel and prudence to Arioch the chief of the king's bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

15

Даниил сказал так: "Почему царь повелел такое суровое наказание?" Тогда Ариох объяснил ему всю историю о снах царя, и Даниил понял.

he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so rigorous from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16

Когда Даниил услышал эту историю, он пошёл к царю Навуходоносору и упросил того дать ему ещё немного времени, чтобы рассказать царю о сне и растолковать его значение.

And Daniel went in, and requested of the king that he would give him time, that he might shew the king the interpretation.

17

Даниил пошёл домой и объяснил всё дело своим друзьям: Анании, Мисаилу и Азарии.

Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions;

18

Даниил велел своим товарищам молить Бога небесного, чтобы Бог был милостив к ним и помог им понять тайну. Тогда Даниил и его товарищи не будут убиты вместе с другими мудрецами Вавилона.

that they would desire mercies of the God of the heavens concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19

Бог открыл Даниилу эту тайну в ночном видении, и Даниил возблагодарил Бога небесного.

19

Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.

20

Даниил сказал: "Да будет благословенно имя Бога во веки веков! У Него мудрость и сила!

20

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; For wisdom and might are his.

21

Он меняет времена года и лета. Он меняет царей. Он даёт царям власть и отнимает её! Он даёт мудрость мудрым и разумение разумным.

21

And it is he that changeth times and seasons; He deposeth kings, and setteth up kings; He giveth wisdom to the wise, And knowledge to them that know understanding.

22

Он знает скрытые тайны, которые трудно понять, и знает Он, что находится во мраке и тайниках! Свет обитает с Ним.

22

It is he that revealeth the deep and secret things; He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

23

Бог моих предков, я благодарю и славлю Тебя! Ты дал мне мудрость и силу. Ты открыл нам то, о чём мы просили Тебя! Ты открыл нам сон царя".

23

I thank thee, and I praise thee, O God of my fathers, Who hast given me wisdom and might, And hast made known unto me already what we desired of thee; For thou hast made known unto us the king's matter.

После этого Даниил пошёл к Ариоху, которого царь Навухоносор выбрал, чтобы убить мудрецов Вавилона. Даниил сказал Ариоху: "Не убивай мудрецов Вавилона. Отведи меня к царю, я расскажу ему сон его и что он означает".

Daniel Interprets the Dream

Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus unto him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

25

Ариох тотчас же привёл Даниила к царю и сказал ему: "Я нашёл человека среди пленников из Иуды, который может рассказать царю, что означает его сон".

Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him: I have found a man of the sons of the captivity of Judah that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

26

Царь задал Даниилу (Валтасару) вопрос: "Можешь ли ты рассказать мне сон, который я видел, и его значение?"

The king answered and said unto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream that I have seen, and its interpretation?

27

Даниил ответил царю: "Царь Навуходоносор, ни один мудрец, ни один провидец, и ни один халдей астролог не мог рассказать царю тайны, о которой он спрашивал.

27

Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said, The secret that the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the magicians, the scribes, the astrologers, shew unto the king;

28

Но есть на небесах Бог, Кто открывает тайны. Бог послал царю Навуходоносору сон, чтобы показать ему то, что случится позднее. Вот какой был твой сон, и вот что увидел ты, лёжа на своём ложе:

28

but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and maketh known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed are these:

29

царь, ты лежал на своём ложе и думал о том, что произойдёт в будущем. Бог может рассказать людям о тайных вещах. Он показал тебе то, что случится в будущем.

-- as for thee, O king, thy thoughts arose upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass.

30

Бог также открыл эту тайну и мне! И не потому, что я мудрее других людей. Нет, Бог рассказал мне о твоей тайне, чтобы ты, царь, понял, что она означает, и узнал, о чём ты помышлял.

30

And as for me, this secret is revealed to me, not by [any] wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation should be made known to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

31

Царь, ты видел во сне перед собой большую статую. Она была огромна и отполирована до блеска. Страшен был вид её.

Thou, O king, sawest, and behold, a great image. This image was mighty and its brightness excellent; it stood before thee, and its appearance was terrible.

32

Голова статуи была сделана из золота, грудь — из серебра, а живот, верхняя часть туловища и ноги — из бронзы.

32

This image's head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33

Нижняя часть ног была сделана из железа, а её ступни были частью железные, частью глиняные.

33

its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

34

Когда ты смотрел на эту статую, ты увидел камень, и камень этот оторвался (от горы), но его оторвал не человек. Пролетев по воздуху, камень ударил по железным и глиняным ногам статуи и разбил их.

Thou sawest till a stone was cut out without hands; and it smote the image upon its feet of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

35

И тогда железо, глина, бронза, серебро и золото раздробились все вместе, как летом на гумне шелуха от зерна. Подул ветер и от неё не осталось и следа. Никто не мог бы сказать, что на том месте когда-то была статуя. А камень, ударивший её, сделался огромной горой и заполнил собой всю землю.

Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken in pieces together, and they became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, and no place was found for them. And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36

Вот такой ты видел сон. А теперь мы скажем царю, что он означает.

36

This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.

37

Царь, ты величайший из царей. Бог дал тебе царство, власть, силу и славу.

37

Thou, O king, art a king of kings, unto whom the God of the heavens hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

38

Бог дал тебе власть править над людьми, дикими животными и птицами. Где бы они ни жили, Бог сделал тебя их правителем. Царь Навуходоносор, ты — та голова статуи из золота.

38

and wheresoever the children of men, the beasts of the field, and the fowl of the heavens dwell, he hath given them into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all: thou art this head of gold.

39

После тебя придёт другое царство — это часть из серебра, но то царство не будет таким великим, как твоё. Потом третье царство будет править на земле — это бронзовая часть.

39

And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; then another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40

Затем будет четвёртое царство — крепкое, как железо. Железо разбивает и дробит всё на куски, и это четвёртое царство сломает и сокрушит все другие царства.

40

And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth everything, and as iron that breaketh all these, so shall it break in pieces and bruise.

41

Ты видел, что ступни и пальцы ног статуи были сделаны частью из глины, а частью из железа. Это значит, что четвёртое царство будет разделено. У него будет крепость железа, потому что ты видел железо, смешанное с глиной.

And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potter's clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

42

Пальцы ног статуи были частью железные, а частью глиняные. Так и четвёртое царство — часть его будет крепкой, как железо, а часть — хрупкой, как глина.

And [as] the toes of the feet were part of iron and part of clay, the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

43

Ты видел железо, смешанное с глиной, но они полностью не смешиваются. Так и народ четвёртого царства будет смешанным. Они не будут едины, как один народ.

43

And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay.

44

Во время правления царей четвёртого царства Бог небесный установит другое царство, которое будет вечным! Оно никогда не будет разрушено! Царство это не будет передано другому народу; оно сокрушит все прежние царства и приведёт их к концу, а само будет стоять вечно.

44

And in the days of these kings shall the God of the heavens set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the sovereignty thereof shall not be left to another people: it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but itself shall stand for ever.

45

Царь Навуходоносор, ты видел камень, оторвавшийся от горы, но не руками человека! Камень разбил железо, бронзу, глину, серебро и золото в кусочки. Так Бог показал тебе то, что случится в будущем. Верен этот сон, и ты можешь доверять его толкованию".

45

Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, -- the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure.

46

Тогда царь Навуходоносор низко поклонился Даниилу. Он похвалил Даниила и велел принести ему дары и благовония.

Nebuchadnezzar Promotes Daniel

Then king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47

И сказал царь Даниилу: "Я твёрдо знаю, что твой Бог самый важный и могущественный Бог, Он — Владыка всех царей. Он говорит людям то, чего они не могут знать. Я знаю, что это правда, так как ты смог рассказать мне эти тайны".

The king answered Daniel and said, Of a truth it is that your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, because thou wast able to reveal this secret.

48

После этого царь поставил Даниила на очень важный пост в своём царстве и подарил ему много дорогих подарков. Навуходоносор сделал Даниила правителем над всей провинцией Вавилона и начальником над всеми вавилонскими мудрецами.

Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

49

Даниил попросил царя сделать Седраха, Мисаха и Авденаго важными чиновниками над провинцией Вавилона, и царь сделал так, как просил его Даниил. А сам Даниил стал одним из важных людей и был приближённым царя.

And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon. And Daniel was in the gate of the king.
