Forty-Eight Cities for the Levites
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
"Скажи израильскому народу, чтобы они отдали левитам часть городов из своей доли земли. Пусть израильский народ отдаст эти города и пастбища вокруг них левитам,
Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
и левиты смогут жить в этих городах и пасти своих коров и другой скот на пастбищах вокруг них.
And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
Отойдите от стен этих городов на 500 метров. Вся эта земля будет принадлежать левитам,
And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
и вся земля на расстоянии 1000 метров на восток от города, 1000 метров на юг от города, 1000 метров на запад от города и 1000 метров на север от города также будет принадлежать левитам. (Город же будет находиться посередине всей этой земли).
And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
Шесть из этих городов будут городами-убежищами. Если один человек нечаянно убьёт другого, то сможет бежать в один из этих городов и там укрыться. Сверх этих шести городов отдайте левитам еще 42 города,
Six Cities of Refuge
And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
а всего отдайте левитам 48 городов и землю вокруг них.
So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
Болышие колена Израиля получат большие наделы земли, а меньшие колена получат меньшие наделы земли, но пусть все отдадут левитам города из свой доли земли".
And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;
выберите города-убежища, куда смог бы убежать человек, случайно убивший кого-то.
Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.
Там он сможет укрыться от членов семьи убитого, которые захотят отомстить ему, и будет в безопасности до времени суда.
And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
Всего должно быть шесть городов-убежищ:
And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
три к востоку от реки Иордан и три в стране Ханаанской.
Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.
Это будут города-убежища для граждан Израиля и для чужестранцев и путешественников — любой сможет бежать в один из этих городов, если случайно убил кого-то.
These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
Если же один человек убил другого железным орудием, то его должно предать смерти.
And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Если человек возьмёт камень и убьёт им другого, то этого человека должно предать смерти (если камень такого размера, что, ударив им, можно убить человека).
And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Или если человек воспользуется куском дерева, чтобы убить другого, то убийцу должно предать смерти, (если кусок дерева является орудием, которым можно убить человека).
Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Член семьи убитого может погнаться за убийцей и убить его.
The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
Если человек из ненависти толкнул и убил, или что-нибудь бросил в человека и убил его,
But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
или из ненависти ударил кого-то рукой и убил его, то он — убийца и должен быть предан смерти; член семьи убитого может погнаться за убийцей и убить его.
Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
Если же человек убил кого-то не из вражды к убитому, а случайно, или если бросил что-нибудь в кого-то и без умысла убил человека,
But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
или бросил камень, и этот камень попал в кого-то, кого тот человек не заметил, и он не желал ему зла, и это произошло случайно,
Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:
пусть общество решает, что с ним делать. Пусть общество рассудит, следует ли члену семейства убитого убить того человека.
Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
Если общество решит защитить человека от семьи убитого, то пусть его отправят обратно в город-убежище, и пусть убийца остаётся там до смерти великого священника.
And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.
Пусть тот человек никогда не выходит за пределы города-убежища, ибо если он выйдет за пределы города
But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;
и член семьи убитого поймает его и убьёт, то член семьи не будет виновен в убийстве.
And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
Пусть человек, случайно убивший кого-то, остаётся в этом городе-убежище, пока не умрёт великий священник, после же смерти великого священника тот человек может возвратиться в свою землю.
Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
Эти правила будут вечным законом во всех городах твоего народа.
So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Убийца должен быть предан смерти, только если есть свидетели. Но одного свидетеля недостаточно.
Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.
Если человек убийца, то его должно предать смерти: не берите у него денег, чтобы изменить приговор, убийца должен быть предан смерти.
Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
И если человек убил кого-то, а потом бежал в один из городов-убежищ, то не берите у него денег в обмен на то, чтобы отпустить его домой: пусть тот человек остаётся в этом городе до смерти великого священника.
And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Не оскверняйте вашей земли кровью невинных: если человек убил кого-то, то единственная расплата за преступление — смерть убийце! Никакая другая расплата не очистит землю от этого преступления!
So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
