David Spares Saul
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.

Саул отобрал три тысячи человек из всего Израиля и пошёл искать Давида и его людей у скал Диких Коз.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
И пришёл он к овечьему загону у дороги. Там была пещера, и Саул зашёл туда по нужде. Давид же и его люди прятались в глубине пещеры.
And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.
И сказали люди Давиду: "Сегодня тот день, о котором говорил тебе Господь! Господь говорил тебе: "Я предам врага твоего в руки твои, и делай с ним что пожелаешь"". Давид незаметно подкрался к Саулу и отрезал край от его верхней одежды, и Саул не видел его.
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.
Потом Давид почувствовал угрызения совести, что отрезал край от одежды Саула.
And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.
Давид говорил своим людям: "Я надеюсь, Господь не даст мне ещё раз сделать подобное своему господину. Саул — избранный Господом царь. Я не должен поднимать руку на Саула, потому что он помазанник Господа!"
And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.
Давид удержал людей своими словами и не дал им напасть на Саула. И Саул вышел из пещеры и пошёл своей дорогой.
So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
Затем Давид вышел из пещеры и крикнул Саулу: "Господин мой царь!" Саул оглянулся, и Давид поклонился ему и пал лицом на землю.
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
Давид сказал Саулу: "Почему ты слушаешь людей, которые говорят, что я замышляю зло против тебя?
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
Я не хочу причинить тебе зла! Ты увидел это сегодня собственными глазами. Господь отдавал тебя в мои руки в пещере. Но я не убил тебя. Я пощадил тебя. Я сказал: "Не подниму руки моей на господина моего, ибо он царь, избранный Господом".
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed.
Посмотри на кусок ткани в моей руке. Я отрезал край твоей одежды. Я мог убить тебя, но я не сделал этого! Теперь я хочу, чтобы ты знал и убедился, что я ничего не замышляю против тебя! Я не причинял тебе зла, а ты охотишься за мной и пытаешься убить.
Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.
Так пусть Господь рассудит нас! Пусть Господь накажет тебя за то зло, которое ты причинил мне. А моя рука не тронет тебя.
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
Как говорит древняя притча: "Зло исходит от злодеев". Я не сделал ничего плохого, и рука моя не поднимется на тебя.
As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
За кем ты гоняешься? Против кого вышел царь Израильский? Ты не преследуешь того, кто причиняет тебе зло! Ты будто за мёртвым псом гоняешься или за блохой.
After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
Пусть Господь рассудит нас. Господь со мной и покажет, что я прав. Господь спасёт меня от руки твоей".
The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.
Когда Давид закончил говорить, Саул спросил: "Твой ли это голос, Давид, сын мой?" Затем он громко зарыдал.
David's Oath to Saul
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

И сказал Саул: "Ты прав, а я нет. Ты был добр ко мне, а я платил тебе злом.
And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
Ты только что рассказал о своей милости ко мне. Господь отдал меня в твои руки, но ты не убил меня.
And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.
Разве человек, найдя врага своего, отпустил бы его невредимым? Я надеюсь Господь воздаст тебе добром за то, как ты поступил со мной сегодня.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
Я знаю, что ты непременно станешь царём и будешь твёрдо держать в руках царство Израиля.
And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.
А теперь поклянись мне Господом, что ты не убьёшь потомков моих и не уничтожишь имени моего в семье отца моего".
Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
