David's Last Song
Now these are the last words of David: David the son of Jesse saith, And the man who was raised up on high, The anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweet psalmist of Israel saith,

“Дух Господній промовляє через мене, слово його в мене на язиці.
The Spirit of Jehovah spoke by me, And his word was on my tongue.
Промовив Бог Ізраїлів, Ізраїлева скеля промовила до мене: Пануватиме над людьми справедливий, пануватиме богобоязливий.
The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me, The ruler among men shall be just, Ruling in the fear of God;
Немов світ уранці, коли сходить сонце, безхмарного ранку, від його проміння попід росою вийшла з землі трава, —
And [he shall be] as the light or the morning, [like] the rising of the sun, A morning without clouds; [When] from the sunshine, after rain, The green grass springeth from the earth.
чи ж не так воно з моїм домом у Бога? Він бо заключив зо мною вічний союз, союз повнотою впоряджений, певний. Так! Він виростить усе моє спасіння й усе моє бажання.
Although my house be not so before God, Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in every way and sure; For [this is] all my salvation, and every desire, Although he make [it] not to grow.
А нікчемні всі, — мов терня, що ніхто не бере його в руку, —
But [the sons] of Belial [are] all of them as thorns thrust away, Because they cannot be taken with hands;
ніхто їх не доторкається, хібащо з залізом та деревом, і палять їх на вогні дощенту.”
And the man that will touch them provideth himself with iron and the staff of a spear; And they shall be utterly burned with fire in [their] place.
Ось імена Давидових витязів: Ішбаал, Гахмоній, головний над трьома. Він підняв свого списа на вісімсот мужів і вигубив їх за одним разом.
David's Mighty Men
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Joseb-Bassebeth, Tachkemonite the chief of the captains: he was Adino the Eznite; he [fought] against eight hundred, slain [by him] at one time.

По ньому — між трьома богатирями — Єлеазар, син Додо, Ахохів син; він був з Давидом у Пасдаммімі, коли філістимляни зібрались були там на бій. Мужі ізраїльські повернулись назад,
And after him, Eleazar the son of Dodo the son of an Ahohite: he was one of the three mighty men with David, when they had defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone up.
але він устав й бив філістимлян, аж доки не стомилась його рука, що мов прилипла до меча. Того дня дарував був Господь велику перемогу. Народ повернувся за ним тільки для того, щоб забрати здобич.
He arose and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave to the sword; and Jehovah wrought a great deliverance that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
За ним був Шамма, Аггеїв син, з Гарару. Філістимляни зібрались були біля Лехі, де був лан поля, засіяний сочевицею. Хоч військо втекло було від філістимлян,
And after him, Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite: the Philistines were gathered into a troop, and there was there a plot of ground full of lentils, and the people had fled before the Philistines;
він став серед поля, обороняв його й побив філістимлян. І дарував Господь велику перемогу.
and he stood in the midst of the plot and delivered it, and smote the Philistines, and Jehovah wrought a great deliverance.
Раз якось троє з тридцятьох зійшли були до Давида під час жнив, у печеру Адулам, саме як частина філістимлян розтаборились у Рефаїм-долині.
And three of the thirty chiefs went down, and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam, when the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
Тоді Давид був у твердині, а філістимлянська залога була у Вифлеємі.
And David was then in the stronghold; and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem.
Запрагнув Давид, тож каже він: “Хто принесе мені води з криниці, що у Вифлеємі при воротях?”
And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me to drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is in the gate!
І продерлися три богатирі у філістимлянський табір, зачерпнути води з криниці, що в Вифлеємі при воротях, узяли й принесли її Давидові. Однак він не хотів її пити, але вилив її (в жертву) Господеві,
And the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, which is in the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; however he would not drink of it, but poured it out to Jehovah.
кажучи: “Далеким хай воно буде від мене, Господи, щоб я таке вчинив! Чи це ж не кров мужів, що важили своїм життям?” І не хотів він її пити. Ось таке доказали ці три витязі.
And he said, Be it far from me, Jehovah, that I should do this thing! is it not the blood of the men that went at the risk of their lives? Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
Авішай, Йоавів брат, син Церуї, був головний над тридцятьма. Він підняв списа на трьохсот і вбив їх. Вславився він між тридцятьма.
And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was the chief of three; and he brandished his spear against three hundred and slew them; and he had a name among the three.
Він був найвизначніший з-поміж тридцятьох, що став їх провідником, але не дорівнював трьом.
Was he not most honourable of three? and he was their captain; but he did not attain to the [first] three.
Беная, син Єгояди, з Кавцелу, славний подвигами муж, добив був двох Арієлових синів з Йоаву. Він же зійшов і вбив лева в середині ритви, того дня, коли саме упав сніг.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, son of a valiant man, great in exploits, of Kabzeel: he it was that smote two lions of Moab; and he went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.
Вбив він також якогось єгиптянина, велетня; в руках єгиптянина був спис, але він зійшов до нього з палицею, вирвав з рук у нього списа й забив його власним же його списом.
He also smote the Egyptian, an imposing man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
Такі ось подвиги вчинив Беная, Єгояди син, чим зажив собі великої слави з-поміж тих тридцятьох героїв.
These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he had a name among the three mighty men.
Він був найбільше шанований поміж тридцятьма, але він не дорівнював трьом. Давид поставив його над своїм двірським вояцтвом.
He was honoured above the thirty, but he did not attain to the [first] three. And David set him in his council.
Азаел, Йоавів брат, був один із тридцятьох; і Елханан, син Додо, з Вифлеєму,
Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
Хелед, Баани син, із Нетофи; Ітай, Рівая син, з Гівеа, веніяминянин,
Heleb the son of Baanah, the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,
Беная із Пиратону, Хідай із Нахле-Гаашу,
Benaiah a Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,
Еліяхба з Шаалвіму, Яшен-Гуній, Йонатан,
Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,
син Шамми, з Гарару, Ахіям, Шараріїв син, з Гарару.
Shammah the Ararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Ararite,
Еліфелет, Ахазбаїв син, з Маахи; Еліям, Ахітофелів син, з Гіло.
Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,
Целек з Аммону, Нахрай із Беероту — зброеноша Йоава, сина Церуї,
Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, the armour-bearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,
