Прибувши Робоам в Ерусалим, скликав із дому Юдиного та Беняминового сто вісїмдесять тисяч добірнїх воінів, щоб воюватись з Ізраїлем і вернути царство Робоамові.

Shemaiah's Prophecy

And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

Та було слово Господнє до Самея, чоловіка Божого, й сказано:

But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Скажи Робоамові Соломоненкові, цареві Юдейському й всьому Ізраїлеві з поколїнь Юдиного й Беняминового:

3

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4

Так говорить Господь: Не йдїть і не починайте війни з вашими братами; вертайтесь кожний до дому свого, бо се сталось від мене. Вони послухали слів Господнїх і повертались з походу проти Еробоама.

Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

Робоам жив в Ерусалимі; він обвів міста в Юдеї мурами.

Rehoboam Fortifies Judah

And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

6

Він укріпив Бетлеєм і Етам, і Текою,

And he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7

І Бетзур, і Сохо, і Одоллам,

7

and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

8

І Гет, і Марешу, й Зиф,

8

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9

І Адораїм, і Лахис, і Азек,

9

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10

І Зору, й Аялон, і Геброн, що були в поколїннї Юдиному та Беняминовому.

10

and Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11

І зміцнив він сї твердинї, й понастановляв у їх начальників і построїв комори на хлїб та олїї та вина.

11

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;

12

І построїв в кожному містї доми на щити та списи, й зробив їх дуже міцними. І зістались при йому Юда та Бенямин.

and in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.

13

І зібрались до його сьвященники та левіти, які були по всїй землї Ізраїлській, з усїх кінцїв,

Priests and Levites Forsaken by Jeroboam

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;

14

Бо покидали левіти свої городські передмістя і свої посїлостї, і поприходили в Юдею та в Ерусалим, бо Еробоам і сини його відставили їх від сьвященницької служби Господеві.

for the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;

15

Та понастановляв у себе жерцїв і до висот, і до козлів, і до телцїв, які повиробляв.

15

and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.

16

А слїдком за ними приходили в Ерусалим із усїх поколїнь Ізрайлевих такі, що справили серце своє, щоб шукати Господа, Бога Ізрайлевого, щоб тут приносити жертви Господеві, Богові батьків своїх.

And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.

17

І зміцнили вони царство Юдине і піддержували Робоама Соломоненка три роки, бо ходили дорогою Давидовою та Соломоновою тільки три роки.

17

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18

І взяв собі Робоам за жінку Махалату Еримотівну, Давидового сина, і Абихаїлю, дочку Елїяба, сина Ессеєвого;

Rehoboam's Family

And Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

19

І породила вона йому синів: Еуса й Шемарію, й Загама.

19

And she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

20

Після неї взяв він Мааху Абессаломівну, а вона породила йому Абію, й Аттая й Зизу, й Шеломита.

20

And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21

І любив Робоам Мааху Абессаломівну більш усїх жінок та наліжниць своїх, — він бо мав вісїмнайцять жінок і шістьдесять наліжниць, і народилось йому двайцять вісїм синів та шістьдесять дочок.

21

And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22

І поставив Робоам Абію, сина Маашиного, головою й князем над його братами, бо хотїв зробити його царем.

22

And Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for [he thought] to make him king.

23

І був запопадній, і розіслав усїх синів своїх по всїх країнах Юдиних та Беняминових у всї утверджені міста, й давав їм достатнє удержаннє й познаходив богато жінок.

And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired [for them] a multitude of wives.
