“Oh that I knew where I might find Him,
That I might come to His seat!

Я виясив би перед ним справу мою, й уста мої сповнились би оправдуваннєм;
“I would present my case before Him
And fill my mouth with arguments.

Я б тодї знав, якими словами він менї відповів би, й зрозумів би, що би він менї сказав.
“I would learn the words which He would answer,
And perceive what He would say to me.

Та чи ж став би то він у повній своїй силї зо мною спорити? О, нї! нехай би тільки звернув увагу на мене.
“Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power?
No, surely He would pay attention to me.

Тодї я, як праведник, міг би розправлятись із ним — і я на все одержав б виправданнє від суддї мого.
“There the upright would reason with Him;

“Behold, I go forward but He is not there,
And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;

“I have not departed from the command of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Та він і непорушний; й хто зміг би відвести його? він чинить, що захоче душа його.
“But He is unique and who can turn Him?
And what His soul desires, that He does.

Так, він доведе до кінця, що призначив про мене, а такого в його дуже багато.
“For He performs what is appointed for me,
And many such decrees are with Him.

Тим то я й дрожу перед ним; думаю — й серце холоне.
“Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence;
When I consider, I am terrified of Him.

“It is God who has made my heart faint,
