New Living Translation

Дїточки мої, се пишу вам, щоб не грішили; а коли хто згрішить, заступника маємо перед Отцем, Ісуса Христа праведника.

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.

А Він вблаганнє за гріхи наші; не за наші ж тільки, а також цїлого сьвіта.

2

He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins — and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

А по тому знаємо, що ми пізнали Його, коли заповідї Його хоронимо.

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.

Хто говорить: Я пізнав Його, а заповідей Його не хоронить, той ложник, і в тому нема правди;

If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.

хто ж хоронить слово Його, істино у тому любов Божа звершена. По тому знаємо, що ми в Ньому.

But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.

Хто говорить, що в Ньому пробуває, повинен, яко ж Той ходив, і він так ходити.

Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.

7

Брати, не заповідь нову пишу вам, а заповідь стару, котру маєте з почину; заповідь стара, се слово, котре ви чули з почину.

A New Commandment

Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment — to love one another — is the same message you heard before.

Знов заповідь нову пишу вам, що єсть правдиве і в Ньому і в вас: що темрява переходить, а сьвітло правдиве вже сьвітить.

Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.

Хто говорить, що він в сьвітлї, а ненавидить брата свого, той в темряві аж досї.

9

If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer,a that person is still living in darkness.

10

Хто любить брата свого, в сьвітлї пробуває, і поблазнї у ньому нема;

10

Anyone who loves a fellow believerb is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.

11

хто ж ненавидить брата свого, той в темряві, і в темряві ходить, і не знає де йде, бо темрява ослїпила очі його.

But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.

12

Пишу вам, дїточки, що оставляють ся вам гріхи задля імени Його.

I am writing to you who are God’s children
because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.c

Пишу вам, батьки, що ви пізнали Того, котрий (єсть) від почину. Пишу вам, молодята, що ви подужали лукавого. Пишу вам, дїти, що ви пізнали Отця.

I am writing to you who are mature in the faithd
because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I am writing to you who are young in the faith
because you have won your battle with the evil one.

14

Писав я вам, батьки, що ви пізнали Того, що від почину. Писав я вам, молодята, що ви сильні, і слово Боже у вас пробуває, і що подужали лукавого.

I have written to you who are God’s children
because you know the Father.
I have written to you who are mature in the faith
because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I have written to you who are young in the faith
because you are strong.
God’s word lives in your hearts,
and you have won your battle with the evil one.

15

Не любіте ж сьвіта, анї того, що в сьвітї. Коли хто любить сьвіт, нема любови Отцївської у ньому;

Do Not Love This World

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

16

все бо, що в сьвітї, — хотїннє тїла і хотїннє очей, і гордощі сьвітові, — не з Отця а зо сьвіта.

16

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

17

І сьвіт перейде, і хотїннє його; хто ж чинить волю Божу, пробуває по вік.

17

And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

18

Дїти, остання година настала; і яко ж чули ви, що антихрист прийде, а тепер многі антихристи постали, то й звідтіля знаємо, що остання година.

Warning about Antichrists

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come.

19

Зміж нас вийшли, тільки не були зміж нас; бо коли б були зміж нас, то остали б з нами; тільки ж відступили вони, щоб явилось, що не всї наші.

19

These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.

20

І ви помазаннє маєте від Сьвятого, і знаєте все.

20

But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit,e and all of you know the truth.

21

Не писав я вам, наче б ви не знали правди, а що знаєте її, і що всяка брехня не від правди.

21

So I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies.

22

Хто ложник, як не той, хто відрікаєть ся, що Ісус не Христос? Сей антихрист, хто відрікаєть ся Отця і Сина.

22

And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ.f Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist.g

23

Всякий, хто відрікаєть ся Сина, той і Отця не має.

23

Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24

Ви ж, що чули від почину, те нехай в вас пробуває; коли в вас пробувати ме, що ви від почину чули, то й ви будете пробувати у Синї і в Отцї.

24

So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.

25

А се обітниця, котру обіцяв нам, — життє вічнє.

25

And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.

26

Се писав я вам про тих, що підманюють вас.

26

I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray.

27

Та помазаннє, котре ви приняли від Нього, в вас пробуває, і не потрібуєте, щоб хто учив вас; а як те саме помазаннє навчає вас про все, і воно правдиве й не брехня, то яко ж воно навчало вас, пробувайте в тому.

27

But you have received the Holy Spirit,h and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spiriti teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true — it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

28

Так, дїточки, пробувайте в Ньому, щоб, коли явить ся, була у нас одвага, і не осоромились перед Ним при Його приходї.

Living as Children of God

And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.

29

Коли знаєте, що Він праведний, то знайте, що всякий, хто робить правду, від Нього родив ся.

29

Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.
