Greeting

Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the [a]bishops and deacons:

Благодать вам і мир від Бога, Отця нашого, і Господа Ісуса Христа.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Дякую Богу моєму при всякому споминї про вас,

Thankfulness and Prayer

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

4

(завсїди в кожній молитві моїй за всїх вас з радощами молячись,)

always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,

5

за товаришуваннє ваше в благовістї від первого дня й досї,

5

for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

6

впевнившись про те, що хто розпочав у вас добре дїло, звершувати ме аж до дня Ісуса Христа.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

7

Яко ж праведно єсть менї се думати про всїх вас, тим що маю вас у серцї і у вязницї моїй і в оборонї і в утвердженню благовістя, вас усїх, спільників моїх благодати.

just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

8

Бог бо менї сьвідок, як я люблю усїх вас по милости Ісус-Христовій.

For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.

9

І про се молюсь, щоб любов ваша ще більш та й більш достаткувала у розумі і у всякому чуттї,

9

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,

10

щоб допевнитись вам, що лучче, і щоб були чисті і непорушені в день Христа,

10

that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

11

сповнені овощами праведности через Ісуса Христа на славу й хвалу Божу.

being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

12

Хочу ж, щоб ви, браттє, зрозуміли, що те, що сталось менї, більш на користь благовістя вийшло,

Christ Is Preached

But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,

13

так що кайдани мої в Христї обявились у всьому судищі і по всїх инших (місцях),

13

so that it has become evident to the whole [b]palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;

14

і більше братів у Господї, упевнившись кайданами моїми, ще більш осьмілились без страху глаголати слово.

14

and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15

Деякі з зависти та перекору, а инші з доброї волї проповідують Христа.

15

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:

16

Инші з перекору проповідують Христа, не щиро, думаючи завдати горя кайданам моїм,

16

[c]The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;

17

а другі з любови, знаючи, що я за оборону благовістя (в кайданах) лежу.

17

but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.

18

Що ж бо? тільки все таки, чи для виду, чи по правдї, Христос проповідуєть ся; і я сим радуюсь і радувати мусь.

18

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.

19

Знаю бо, що се обернеть ся на моє спасеннє вашою молитвою і поміччю Духа Ісус-Христового,

19

To Live Is Christ

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20

по дожиданню і надїї моїй, що нї в чому не осоромлюсь, а з усією сьміливостю, як завсїди, так і тепер звеличить ся Христос у тїлї моїм, чи то життєм, чи то смертю.

20

according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

21

Бо життє менї Христос, а смерть надбаннє.

21

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22

Коли ж жити менї тїлом, се менї овощ дїла, то що й вибрати, не знаю.

22

But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I [d]cannot tell.

23

Тїсно бо менї від обох, маючи бажаннє розвязатись (із тїлом), та з Христом бути; багато бо воно лучче.

23

[e]For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

24

А щоб пробувати в тїлї, се нужнїщ ради вас.

24

Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

25

І певно знаю, що зістанусь (у тїлї) і пробувати му з усїма вами на вашу користь і радість віри,

25

And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith,

26

щоб ваша похвала много достаткувала в Христї Ісусї, як прийду знов до вас.

26

that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.

27

Тільки достойно благовістя Христового живіть, щоб, чи я прийду та побачу вас, чи то й не буду між вами, почув про вас, що стоїте в одному дусї, і однією душею боретесь за віру євангелську,

27

Striving and Suffering for Christ

Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

28

і не жахаючись нї в чому від противників; се їм явний знак погибелї, а вам спасення, і воно від Бога.

28

and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but [f]to you of salvation, and that from God.

29

Бо вам дано, що до Христа, не тільки в Него вірувати, та задля Него й страждати,

29

For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

30

маючи ту ж боротьбу, яку в менї видїли, і тепер чуєте про мене.

30

having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
