Як почув же найстарший брат Давидів Еліяб, що він говорить з тими мужами, то й розсердився Еліяб на Давида та й каже: Про що прийшов ти сюди, і на кого покинув тих трохи овечат у степу? Я знаю твою гординю і дурне твоє серце. Прийшов ти сюди дивитись на війну.

Якже почув найстарший брат Давида Еліяв, що він розмовляє з тими мужами, розсердивсь на Давида й мовив: «Чого ти прийшов сюди? На кого ти покинув тих трохи овечат у пустині? Знаю твою зухвалість і твоє лихе серце! Прийшов сюди лише, щоб подивитись на війну!»

І почув Еліяв, його найстарший брат, як він говорив до людей. І запалився Еліявів гнів на Давида, і він сказав: „Чого то зійшов ти? І на ко́го ти позоставив трохи тієї отари в пустині? Я знаю зарозумі́лість твою та порожнечу твого серця, бо ти зійшов, щоб подивитися на війну́!“

И услышал Елиав, старший брат Давида, что говорил он с людьми, и рассердился Елиав на Давида и сказал: зачем ты сюда пришёл и на кого оставил немногих овец тех в пустыне? Я знаю высокомерие твоё и дурное сердце твоё, ты пришёл посмотреть на сражение.

And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” -
