    Praise for God’s Deliverance

    Then David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day when the Lord had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.

    та й сказав: „Госпо́дь моя ске́ля й тверди́ня моя, і для мене Спаси́тель Він мій!
  • 2
    And he said:
    “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
  • 3
    Мій Бог — моя ске́ля, сховаюсь я в ній, Він щит мій і ріг Він спасі́ння мого́, Він ба́шта моя та моє пристано́вище! Спаси́телю мій, — Ти врятуєш мене від наси́лля!

    The God of my strength, in whom I will trust;
    My shield and the horn[a] of my salvation,
    My stronghold and my refuge;
    My Savior, You save me from violence.

    I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
    So shall I be saved from my enemies.

    “When the waves of death surrounded me,
    The floods of ungodliness [b]made me afraid.

    Тене́та шео́лу мене оточи́ли, а па́стки смерте́льні мене попере́дили!

    The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me;
    The snares of death confronted me.

    В тісноті́ своїй кличу до Господа, і до Бога свого́ я вола́ю, — І Він почує мій голос із храму Свого́, і в ушах Його — зойк мій.

    In my distress I called upon the Lord,
    And cried out to my God;
    He heard my voice from His temple,
    And my cry entered His ears.

    Захита́лась земля й затремті́ла, затрясли́ся й хитались небесні підва́лини, — бо Він запалився від гніву!

    “Then the earth shook and trembled;
    The foundations of [c]heaven quaked and were shaken,
    Because He was angry.

    Із ні́здер Його бу́хнув дим, з Його ж уст — пожиру́щий огонь, запаливсь жар від Нього!

    Smoke went up from His nostrils,
    And devouring fire from His mouth;
    Coals were kindled by it.

    Він небо простя́г — і спустився, а хмара густа́ під нога́ми Його.

    He bowed the heavens also, and came down
    With darkness under His feet.

    Усівся Він на херуви́ма — й летів, і явився на ві́тряних кри́лах.

    He rode upon a cherub, and flew;
    And He [d]was seen upon the wings of the wind.

    А навколо Себе поклав те́мряву, мов куріні́, збір води, густі хмари висо́кі.

    He made darkness canopies around Him,
    Dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
  • 13
    Від бли́ску, що був перед Ним, запали́лось вугі́лля горю́че.

    From the brightness before Him
    Coals of fire were kindled.
  • 14
    Госпо́дь загримів у небеса́х, і Свій голос Всевишній подав.

    “The Lord thundered from heaven,
    And the Most High uttered His voice.
  • 15
    Він послав Свої стріли та їх розпоро́шив, послав бли́скавку й їх побенте́жив.
  • 15
    He sent out arrows and scattered them;
    Lightning bolts, and He vanquished them.
  • 16
    І показа́лися рі́чища во́дні, і відкрились основи вселе́нної, — від сва́ру Твойо́го, о Господи, від по́диху вітру із ні́здер Його.

    Then the channels of the sea were seen,
    The foundations of the world were uncovered,
    At the rebuke of the Lord,
    At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.

    Він послав із високо́сти, узяв Він мене, витяг мене з вод великих.

    “He sent from above, He took me,
    He drew me out of many waters.
  • 18
    Він мене врятував від мойого поту́жного ворога, від моїх ненави́сників, — бо сильніші від ме́не вони.

    He delivered me from my strong enemy,
    From those who hated me;
    For they were too strong for me.
  • 19
    Напали на мене вони в день нещастя мого́, — та Господь був моїм опертя́м.
  • 19
    They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
    But the Lord was my support.
  • 20
    І на місце широке Він вивів мене, Він мене врятува́в, — бо вподо́бав мене!
  • 20
    He also brought me out into a broad place;
    He delivered me because He delighted in me.
  • 21
    Нехай Господь зробить мені по моїй справедли́вості, хай заплатить мені згідно з чи́стістю рук моїх!

    “The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness;
    According to the cleanness of my hands
    He has recompensed me.
  • 22
    Бо беріг я доро́ги Господні, і від Бога свойо́го я не відступи́в,
  • 22
    For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
    And have not wickedly departed from my God.
  • 23
    бо всі Його при́суди передо мною, постано́ви ж Його́, — не вступлю́ся від них!

    For all His judgments were before me;
    And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.
  • 24
    І був я Йому непоро́чним, і стерігся своєї провини.
  • 24
    I was also blameless before Him,
    And I kept myself from my iniquity.
  • 25
    І Госпо́дь заплатив був мені по моїй справедли́вості, за чистото́ю моє́ю перед очима Його́.

    Therefore the Lord has [e]recompensed me according to my righteousness,
    According to [f]my cleanness in His eyes.

    З справедли́вим Ти справедли́во пово́дишся, із чесним — по-че́сному,
  • 26
    “With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful;
    With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
  • 27
    із чистим — пово́дишся чисто, а з лукавим — за лука́вством його́!
  • 27
    With the pure You will show Yourself pure;
    And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.

    І народ із біди Ти спасаєш, а очі Твої — на зухва́лих, яких Ти принижуєш.
  • 28
    You will save the humble[g] people;
    But Your eyes are on the haughty, that You may bring them down.
  • 29
    Бо світильник Ти, Господи, мій, і осві́тить Господь мою те́мряву!

    “For You are my lamp, O Lord;
    The Lord shall enlighten my darkness.
  • 30
    Бо з Тобою поб'ю́ я ворожого відділа, із Богом своїм проберу́сь через мур!

    For by You I can run against a troop;
    By my God I can leap over a wall.

    Бог — непорочна доро́га Його, слово Господнє очи́щене, щит Він для всіх, хто вдається до Ньо́го!

    As for God, His way is perfect;
    The word of the Lord is proven;
    He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

    Бо хто Бог, окрім Господа? І хто скеля, крім нашого Бога?

    “For who is God, except the Lord?
    And who is a rock, except our God?

    Бог — сильне моє пристано́вище, і дорогу мою Непоро́чний вивідував.

    [h]God is my strength and power,
    And He makes [i]my way perfect.
  • 34
    Він чинить ноги мої, як оле́нячі, і ставить мене на висо́тах моїх,

    He makes [j]my feet like the feet of deer,
    And sets me on my high places.

    Мої руки навчає до бо́ю, і на раме́на мої лука мі́дяного напина́є.

    He teaches my hands [k]to make war,
    So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

    І дав Ти мені щит спасі́ння Свого́, і чинить великим мене Твоя поміч!

    “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;
    Your gentleness has made me great.

    Ти чиниш широким мій крок підо мною, — і сто́пи мої не спіткну́ться.

    You enlarged my path under me;
    So my feet did not slip.
  • 38
    Жену́ я своїх ворогів, і повигу́блюю їх, і не верну́ся, аж поки не ви́нищу їх!

    “I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them;
    Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.

    Я їх повигу́блюю й їх потрощу́, — і не встануть вони, і повпадають під ноги мої.

    And I have destroyed them and wounded them,
    So that they could not rise;
    They have fallen under my feet.

    Ти ж для бо́ю мене підпері́зуєш силою, ва́лиш під мене моїх ворохо́бників.
  • 40
    For You have armed me with strength for the battle;
    You have [l]subdued under me those who rose against me.
  • 41
    Поверну́в Ти плечима до мене моїх ворогів, моїх ненави́сників, — й я їх пони́щу!

    You have also [m]given me the necks of my enemies,
    So that I destroyed those who hated me.
  • 42
    Озирались вони — та немає спаси́теля, кли́кали до Господа — і не відповів їм!

    They looked, but there was none to save;
    Even to the Lord, but He did not answer them.

    І я їх зітру́, як той по́рох землі, як болото на ву́лицях — їх розітру́ й розтопчу́ їх!

    Then I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth;
    I trod them like dirt in the streets,
    And I [n]spread them out.

    Ти ж від бунту наро́ду мойо́го мене бережеш, на го́лову лю́ду мене стереже́ш, мені бу́дуть служити наро́ди, яких я й не знав!

    “You have also delivered me from the [o]strivings of my people;
    You have kept me as the head of the nations.
    A people I have not known shall serve me.

    Передо мною чужи́нці підле́щуються, на вістку про мене — слухня́ні мені.

    The foreigners submit to me;
    As soon as they hear, they obey me.
  • 46
    В'януть чужи́нці, і тремтя́ть у тверди́нях своїх.
  • 46
    The foreigners fade away,
    And [p]come frightened from their hideouts.
  • 47
    Живий Господь, — і благословенна будь, Скеле моя, і нехай піднесе́ться Бог скелі спасі́ння мого́!

    “The Lord lives!
    Blessed be my Rock!
    Let God be exalted,
    The Rock of my salvation!

    Бог, що по́мсти за ме́не дає, і що народи під мене позни́жував,

    It is God who avenges me,
    And subdues the peoples under me;
  • 49
    що рятує мене від моїх ворогі́в, — Ти звели́чив мене над повста́нців на мене, спасаєш мене від насильника!

    He delivers me from my enemies.
    You also lift me up above those who rise against me;
    You have delivered me from the violent man.

    Тому́ то хвалю́ Тебе, Господи, серед народів, Іме́нню Твоє́му співаю!

    Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles,
    And sing praises to Your name.

    Ти башта спасі́ння Свойо́го царя, і милість вчиняєш Своєму пома́занцеві, — Давиду й насінню його аж навіки!“

    “He is the tower of salvation to His king,
    And shows mercy to His anointed,
    To David and his descendants forevermore.”
